Iāve been really in my feels today and had an interaction at school that broke my heart. I have a new kiddo who speaks no English and Iāve been trying out different ways to accommodate and was confused when she kept acting surprised. Today we had a chance to really sit for a second and talk through Google Translate, and I wanted to cry. Sheās already so isolated because all of her family lives in Mexico. At her old school no one attempted any accommodations (confirmed by our EL teacher) and barely interacted with her. She began failing and was just passed along because no one āknew how to help.ā She asked me to introduce her to other Spanish speaking students in the school. šShe was typing so fast and hugged me so hard when the bell rang. We can barely, verbally say hello to one another, but ugh. I got a chair from the office and put it by my desk for her so we can type back and forth. Then I took her to the library to find some books in Spanish and she got like eight and was so excited. Iām unwell. I love her.
