â Â a pavement of the past
Born to Amanda and Luis Mercado, Ramona is half Puerto Rican and grew up on the outskirts of Indiana. Sheâs the older sister to Louise Mercado, one of the nicest girls youâd ever meet. Ramona however, was not the nicest child growing up. With both parents witches (her mother non practicing for the most part) she had the unfortunate manifestation of her premonitions at a young age. This often led her to be antisocial and frighten other children, even ones within the coven.
Because of her power she strayed away from people that werenât her family or other witches. She had little social skills and no experience with other supernatural creatures other than what sheâd read.
During her freshman year her high school, her parents separated when she was only fifteen and Louise was ten. The split was amicable, but her father moved away and out of the coven, which left her depressed, as she was put into an adult role in Louiseâs life while her mom picked up another job to support them. She dropped out of school and focused on her growing power, finding it easier to be away from people. Nearing the beginning of what would have been her sophomore year, her mother met a witch who was new in town and thus new to their coven.
Charlotte (âCharlieâ) Quinn, became close with Ramona and was a strong business woman who came home wearing suits and changed into her gardening clothes. She was a good fit for their family and was a very earthy witch. Ramona felt more grounded around nature, least likely to suffer from her premonitions when she was wrist deep in dirt. They bonded over liking to get covered dirt and gardening. Ramona really opened up her last few years of being home schooled, she was still very blunt and barely interacted with people outside of the coven, but she had a little more control over her power.
Leaving home to move to Hollow Grove was a split decision but Ramona wanted to step out on her own and leave her coven. She found a small house with a spot for gardening and planted herself there. Trying to find hobbies that didnât include just planting things and reading books, she took up photography so she could document her garden time.
She had been in Hollow Grove for three years when she got word that her sister Louise had fallen ill and her magic was waning. Hoping that she would grow stronger with the support of her family, Ramona returned to Indiana for two years where she focused on being a little more involved with her fellow witches.
But once she returned to town she was back to being closed off and lost in her own little world of observing and studying the world around her, spending much of her time working or wandering around through town or the woods taking pictures and collecting local flora.
â Â the nature of the beast
Ramona however, was not the nicest child growing up. Sheâd like to think she was just misunderstood, but she could be a straight up brat. Her hobbies included playing in dirt and collecting rocks, bringing home stray cats, and terrorizing local kids with ghost stories. But her powers began to scare her and she withdrew completely, she was afraid to touch people or things she was unfamiliar with. This caused her to beâŠabrasive to keep people away on purpose if they get too close for comfort. Blunt by nature, she can seem rude at times. But those who really know her and can accept that her lack of social tact is just how she is, know sheâs sweet and very caring at heart, fiercely loyal, and honestly not as strange as she plays up to be.
