Forgiveness needs to be earned || Klaus&Randle

Randle had been avoiding most of his family but mainly his father. After his outburst he didn’t know what to say to him so he chose to say nothing. When one day he learnt avoiding things wasn’t going to make it go away. It would only make it worse. Randle quietly walked into the lounge slowly. He edged in slowly to find his father. “Hey… Dad can we talk?”

Liz stood in the corner, a wine glass in hand, one in which her mother came and took from her the moment she walked past. “Yeah yeah. No spilling wine one your dress.” She groaned just as Randle came up. “Please, you think you have it hard? Mom made me run. If I don’t win… i’ll feel like such a failure. Mom won, Alice won, and if I don’t…” She sighed. “I’ll never live it down. I guess. I mean whatever. Anyways, you have to deal with the bachelor raffle later tonight.” She mused. “Have fun with that.”

“Oh come on. There’s no way you won’t win. And if there is even a slight chance you won’t win I’m sure dad will have something to say about it. I wouldn’t worry. You wouldn’t want worry lines to lower the chances.” He shook his head. “Seriously you have my vote either way. You’ve got this.” He placed his hands in his pockets to stop himself fiddling around with his suit again. “Yeah I’ll try. I get randomly paired off with any girl who wants to buy a ticket. I’ll end up with someone who brought a ticket to get Owen or someone and it will be a disaster. You’ve been practising your whole life for this you have it a little easier. You know what you’re doing.”

Ally sat at the bar of her sister’s club. The bartender made her way over to the little Lockwood, and she ordered a handful of vodka shots. She needed to forget. She needed to drown her sorrows in the burning liquid and forget that her daughter would be five months old today. She’d be getting so big. Maybe her green eyes would lit up with energy… and that’s when Ally took the first shot, eagerly chasing it down with a second, and then third, and before she knew it, all five glasses in front of her were empty. It was then she looked down the bar, noticing a familiar face. “Randle? I didn’t expect to see you here…”

Randle slowly turned around when he heard his name. He didn’t expect to be noticed here that’s why he went. He had done a few things lately that he disliked and he was dealing with it how most people of the town did, by drinking, he thought, why fight it. The club wasn’t exactly a place he’d go normally for entertainment,so it was a perfect place to hide out. “Ally? Hey.” He scratched the top of his head. “What can I say your sister sells good booze. You here to see her?”

“WHAT!?” She snapped, running over to him. “You…the boat…th-that was YOU? Oh my god.” She punched his arm. “God, and then you pushed dad. You’re really like him. He doesn’t see that yet- or maybe he does and thats why he’s being hard on you because of Mikael. This is stuff you need to talk to him about. You know? I know it’s hard but you two need to just talk it out. It’s what I would eventually do.”

“Yes that was me. I’d have thought you’d have put it together. It was on the news maybe it wasn’t here but it was. Nineteen year old boy crashes boat there were no casualties, or so they thought, but blood work messed up the machines and made interns think they were screwing up. Nothing they did made sense but trainees, eh? Can’t get the staff now-a-days.” He tried making a joke of the situation but his heart wasn’t in it like usual. “Didn’t I just prove violence is not the answer?” He shook his head. “I’m not like him. I’m not a stubborn self-centred jackass who has a crappy way of showing he cares.” He spat a few words. He didn’t want to be like his father even if deep down he did see it. “He isn’t like Mikael, I’m not like him. I can’t talk to him about anything, Liz. I can’t be in the same room without riling up. I don’t want to but we just clash.”

“Okay- ew.” She scrunched her face at the thought of her brother. Shaking it off. “Uh-” She wasn’t expecting that question, but it did get her thinking. “Well, for starters, you should know that I really don’t always get what I want in the end. Well, not always.” She laughed softly. “And I don’t stay calm either but what you need to tell yourself is no matter how much you stomp your feet, or glomp around- dad doesn’t give in to batting your lashes. He responds to facts. Say you want a new car? You need to provide him with safety reviews, guidlines, pie-charts, success rates- even then he’ll still pick a car out for you.” She shrugged. “You’re not talking about cars are you? What’s going on? You and dad arguing?”

“See, not as fun when it’s reversed is it?” He laughed and shrugged. “You do. Even if its a month down the line or two you eventually get what you want. That’s why I sweet talk mum for you and you sweet talk dad for me.” He shook his head. “No I’m not. If I wanted a car or something I’d buy it myself and face the consequences after. It’s worse.” He took a deep breath, unsure where to start. “Well when I came back he came to my room, no knock, just barged right in. We started talking then it all blew out of proportion. He just made me so mad. We had a moment and he ruined it by demanding respect and accusing me of talking with Tyler like some stupid imbecile. He ruined it, like he does, I lost it. I just totally lost it with him and flipped. I pushed him and told him he needs to earn father status. I’m in big shit Liz. If mum doesn’t kill me for it with guilt dad will actually kill me.” He exaggerated. “I stole the boat, killed myself ruining it, made a huge hospital bill, left town, I hit dad. I’m fucked, Liz. I’m well and truly fucked. All that’s left now is to find out I got someone up the duff and I’ve topped all of you four put together. I don’t know what to do.”

Randle’s Inspiration || Like Father Like Son

Randle's inspiration is a man he doesn't believe he looks up to in anybody. He idolises his father. Niklaus always gets what he wants and doesn't let anything stop him. No matter how long it takes no matter how hard it is the always overcomes his problems. The two have faced similar obstacles in their lives. Three examples are; loving someone with difficulties, protecting family no matter what and unwanted/hindered species changes.

Klaus had managed to become the wolf that he had always meant to be where as Randle had always believed himself to be a warlock and nothing else. When he triggered his gene and became a werewolf he didn't like it at first. He wanted to be powerful and to be able to protect his family with his magic. He believed it was the only way he could do so. He looked to his father's adaptation from vampire to hybrid. Klaus managed to become what he wanted and how he was able to protect his family no matter the species he was. Randle like his father hated when he could not be what he wanted to be. He tried everything possible to break magic's laws and to be able to become the species he wanted again. He had plans and back up plans but none of them would have worked. Unfortunately this was where he differed from his father, Randle was not able to get his powers back although it was not due to lack of trying.

However he looked up to his father's example again. He could see that being part wolf had not changed how his father felt or thought. Deep down he was still the same person at his core. This inspired Randle to realise that the only difference now was that he had no magical powers to make everything easier for him.  Now things would be a little harder but that would make them more worthwhile. Waiting and putting effort in was better than it being easy.

Not only in the fact of change does Randle look up to his father. He also looks up to him in the idea of love. Niklaus did not give up on the love of his life even though that would have been not only easy but would have saved a lot of time. He had stuck at it and this meant that both of his parents were happy together after waiting and being patient. He didn't let things stop him. Randle has learnt not to give up. If something is easy it is not worth having.

Both Randle and Klaus would do anything for their family if they thought it was the right thing to do. They would do it to help their family even if they would be disliked afterwards.

Randle may not even be aware that he idolises his father. He believes he is more like his mother. He thinks that he is not like his father at all. He is however more like his father than he knows.

The hybrid felt his heart nearly sink into his stomach after receiving the news about his son’s death. He froze mid-pace, his body perfectly still as he recollected his thoughts around his newfound information. He inhaled a sharp intake through his teeth, forcing his muscles to relax as he continued to process Randle’s words. He clenched his jaw as he proceeded to listen to his son’s story, a pang of guilt forcing itself into the pit of his chest. How could something as essential as the transition of his children slip its way past him without the slightest acknowledgement? The anger began to seep its way back into his body, spreading like a disease through his veins. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of bitterness toward Randle’s condescending attitude, though the anger he felt was mainly towards himself. Randle’s last remark caused Klaus to flinch slightly. He bit down on his tongue, hard enough so that he could taste the blood as it oozed out of its punctured holes. The silence grew deafening as neither of the two said a word. After a few moments of enduring the thickening air, he turned on his heels so that he was now fully facing his son. The similarity between the two was unmistakable at this point. Giving into the idea that Randle was becoming more like himself everyday made it hurt that much more. As the remorse grew more apparent, the hybrid masked his emotions with his rage—A habit he hasn’t been fortunate enough to overcome after centuries passed. “Randle,” he began, breaking the silence as he held onto his son’s gaze. His expression was impassive, as always, as he spoke. “I’m sorry.” He clenched his teeth. “I’m sorry for my absence through all of this. You must understand that it was never my intention to leave you to fend for yourself—especially during such trauma in your life.” He took a step forward, his lips pursed slightly as his expression hardened. “But you are never to speak to me in that tone.” His voice had lowered, almost eerily as he spoke. “I understand you’re upset. I’m very well aware of my negligence as being a key factor behind your anger, but I am your father—And you are to treat me as such.” The last few words left his lips enunciated and dragged. The two were inches away at this point as the hybrid stood neck-and-neck with his growing son.

Randle kept still as his father approached. He knew how rare it was for his father to apologize and truly mean it so it hit home when he could just tell that he meant what he said. It wasn’t as if he was doing it knowing Caroline was listening in. He hadn’t been put up to it nor was he saying it because he felt he needed to, he meant it. To anyone outside the family they would not have been anywhere near as comforting or thought felt as they were to him. He knew how much his father was trying but with his emotions on overdrive and being so similar he couldn’t help but clash when he continued to speak. To start with he got emotional about how much his father obviously regretted not being there but it was quickly shadowed by the way he demanded respect. He knew it was just how his father was but he couldn’t help but respond to it. Couldn’t he just for once not cover things up by trying to gain power?

“Just stop. There’s noone here  to impress, no cronnies, no family. We both know father is a title that has to be earned. Coming all up in my face and trying to make me respect you by force isn’t going to work.” He felt a pang of emotions as he thought about how hard it would be for him to have children now. He knew it was possible, he was proof enough of that but it wasn’t what he wanted. He didn’t want to have to be in Mystic Falls to even try to have children. The young hybrid wasn’t thinking when he lashed out. He stood up so they were practically touching. He raised his arms and pushed Klaus’ shoulders. Hoping the sudden shock of it would mean he actually moved aside. He regretted his actions the second he did it but would regret it later when he thought about  what he had actually done.

“Good.” He shook his head. “It’s not as good as you would expect, for that anyway, trust me. It needs a non-slip mat.” He laughed. “Can I ask you a serious question? How on earth do you, not only stay calm with dad but also get whatever you want in the end? Mum’s no trouble for me but dad... well...”

She mentally rolled her eyes at her son’s tell tale signs of nervousness. It wasn’t like she was going to judge him for his choices. As long as he learnt from his experiences, she was more than okay with it! Caroline pursed her lips as he began rambling, much like herself which brought about a smile that quickly vanished as she caught sight of his golden eyes. It took a solid minute for her to comprehend everything before her. “Breathe Randy!” She told him, taking a much needed calming breathe herself. “Huh…when– how did this happen?” She gestured at him from top to bottom as a sudden thought struck her. He was a hybrid now and in that case he should have killed someone, accidentally of course cause she can’t see Randle harming even a fly. “I know you’re my son no matter what Randle!” She moved forward to hug him close, “Are you sure you’re okay?”

Randle saw her face drop as the information sunk in. Her smile vanished and she became her serious-self. He took a long deep breath when reminded. It was as if he had forgotten to beforehand. “The night I took the boat for a spin it crashed, badly. I barely made it out in one piece... My heart must have stopped for long enough for the vampire side to kick in. So my long weekend away that you thought was a romantic one didn’t turn out so well. I didn’t spend the weekend on some island. I spent it in hospital.” He had lied or extended the truth to everyine who asked. He wanted to stay strong so people didn’t worry about him in every situation, however, he could not lie to his mother like that. He could never tell a lie to her no matter how hard he tried. She always knew better and he couldn’t face the guilt of lying to her “I... I guess I could be better, getting there.”

“Yeah but they’re much smaller. You can squash spiders or run away if they’re poisonous. Snakes not so much.” Randle couldn’t help but grimace. “That’s gross. It would be more believable to put them in the lounge or study though. I wouldn’t believe you to have sex in my room or bathroom if I walked in on you. Or I’d hope you’d never have sex in my room. Don’t tell me if you would. I’d rather just imagine you wouldn’t.”

“No longer a child yet still defending inanimate objects,” the hybrid responded condescendingly with the shake of his head. Disregarding his son’s sarcastic response to his question, his neck suddenly snapped towards his direction at the sound of an unpleasantly familiar name. “Tyler?” the hybrid hissed through his teeth, his eyes widened with bewilderment. His hands balled into fists, Niklaus began inched closer towards his son as a million questions flooded his thoughts. “Tyler?” he repeated again, practically spitting his name with venom. “So this is what’s been occupying your time these past few weeks? Lollygagging with the foe of your father’s?” His nostrils were flared at this point, anger beginning to rush through his body at the thought of Tyler anywhere near his family. Unable to control his rage, he promptly turned on his heels as he began pacing back and forth within the small suite. He remained silent as he began picking up his pace, cautious as to not blurt out regretful accusations.

“I don’t think you’d like it either if I went into your room and ditched all your belongings, how about your art, would you defend that?” Randle rolled his eyes and shook his head. “You really think so low of me? You honestly think I’m so stupid that I’d go chat with Tyler?” He tensed up as his father did. He growled a little as he approached. “You wonder why I don’t just tell you things.” He scoffed and sat on his swizzle chair at his desk with his legs crossed up. “You are almost 2,000 years old and yet you don’t use your eyes at all do you?!” He glared. “I’ll spell it out for you. About a month ago I died. And you didn’t notice! None of you did! Thanks to being your son I transitioned. Another perk of being the Original Hybrids son.” He spat. “You want to know about the last two weeks? Don’t assume, just ask. On purge night I slaughtered about five people so I left to control my urges and attempt to break the sire bond, if I had one.” He twisted his chair so that he was facing the window. He feared if he faced his fathers pacing he would totally snap. “So no I wasn’t lollygagging with the Lockwood. I was trying to make myself free. How about you order me to shut up and see if it works.”
