Ally parked her car in the parking lot of the fitness centre that she’d been attending. After getting changed and hopping on a bike to warm up, she looked around, noticing a familiar face. “Hey,” she smiled, hopping off the piece of equipment. “I’ve never seen you here before.”

“Woah!” He said with a grin present on his face. He liked the message behind it. “So I distance myself from my best friend and you turn into a badass? Maybe I should leave you more often.” He teased.

“I just got fed up with being pushed around after the night where we all kind of lost control. I lost control of myself, and I spent a week afterward wallowing in self pity at what I did. Smoking, drinking a bit, trying to forget what I did. I killed people and I enjoyed it, I felt like I was under a curse... Either way I decided I was done. I started kickboxing, learned how to control myself a little, got a tattoo... I don’t know what would happen if you ditched me again,” she smiled. “I might punch you in the face when you finally come back to me.”

“I did. I was just hoping you wouldn’t.” He sighed looking her up and down as he thought of what to say. “I just want to try this new hike out, that’s all.” He lied with a tight smile. “Happy? Will you just go get ready.”

“Hike? Fair,” she said, not sure if she believed him completely, but her curiosity got the better of her. “I’ll be back down in 10,” Ally responded, making her way up the stairs and putting on a hoodie and her jogging pants before coming back downstairs. “Let’s go.”

Freddie turns back to look at his un-occupied truck but walks along with his best friend. “Woah. Badass man!!” He grins. “What’s it of? Where is it?”

“It’s here,” she said, gesturing to the left side of her ribcage. “Just some cursive writing, says get knocked down, get back up,” she told him. “To be honest, I almost chickened out like three times and it definitely hurt, but I love it.”

Phelix made his way toward the counter and then ordered both of them a peppermint hot chocolate. “Are there any good books in this town’s library? I’ve tried to look for something good but to no avail.”

“Right now I’m majoring in World Histories at Whitmore, have been for the last year or so, after I got-” she began, stopping herself from bringing up her pregnancy. “After I graduated, which I was able to do a year early,” she covered. It wasn’t a lie, after all. Her studying abroad had equaled out to more than what she’d expected. “Books? Oh there are tons if you look. If you want some good suggestions, you should stop by Booktique. I work there on the weekends and we have a ton of classics that you can look at. Definitely more than the library has.”

“It’s okay...” Allison said, genuine sincerity in her voice. She could tell Charlie was worried for her, but she was different now. “It’s really fine, Charl. It sucked that it happened, but it is what it is. I’m learning to deal with it. It’s helped me become stronger.”
