‎Close your eyes & imagine the best version of you possible. That’s who you really are, let go of any part of you that doesn’t believe it.
C. Assaad (via stellablu)
At the end of the day you've got to feel some way, so why not feel unbeatable? Why not feel untouchable? Why not feel like the best who ever do [sic] it?
UFC Fighter Conor McGregor
God love that man. Can't wait to see him fight again tonight!
66th Emmy Awards "Look of the Night": Nolan Gould - I have to hand it to this young man. He has always known how to rock a red carpet. While he is rarely seen without a bow tie or blazer, he (or his stylist) knows how to switch it up and keep the combinations fresh. This checkered blazer was a welcomed contrast in a sea of navy and black tuxedos.
Also of note, his posture. Too many GROWN men were slouching with their hands in their pockets (Ty Burrell, I'm looking at you...). Take notes, gentlemen!
Honourable Mentions:
Robin Wright's Backless Ralph Lauren Jumpsuit
Ty Burrell's Slim Fit Navy Tuxedo with Black Lapels (Thought the clear-rimmed glasses were a great modern touch for a classic look)
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's Simple, yet Super Flattering Black Tuxedo (I have a strong liking for straight-end bow ties as opposed to butterfly ones)
P.S. Bravo to Johnston & Murphy! I feel like EVERY male at the Emmys was wearing their shoes!
Who were your favourites? What trend stuck out most to you?
The ONLY Outfit that Mattered on the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards Red Carpet - Chanel Iman in Balmain {drops mic} (Honourable Mention to Laverne Cox in Marc Bouwer though)
Aside: Dear world, how in the hell did Casper Smart get into the VMAs without JLo? No shade... Just ...Inquiring minds need to know... :P
Interview Magazine’s September Issue Bows With Six Covers: Craig McDean’s cover featuring Amber Valletta - Forgive me, fashion gods! I have done the unspeakable... I have chosen Amber Valletta over Naomi Campbell.
Valletta looks surreal as if she’s being captured as a René Gruau portrait... and I’m a sucker for a woman in a tie, really. I have always been a bigger fan of the more moodier supermodels of the 90s like Valletta, Shalom Harlow and Yasmeen Ghauri. Linda Evangelista reigns over ALL though.
(Aside: Why is the only black model in the cover series naked wearing shackle-esque jewelry? Are we STILL doing this? Things that make you go, "Hmmm..."Â )
Top Five Hit List: Altuzarra for Target
I don't know about y'all, but I am MAJORLY excited about this collection! One, it will be the first time that I'll fully immerse myself in the madness that is a "Target Designer Collaboration Opening Day" in person (Holla, Stockyards!). Second, Joseph Altuzarra has knocked off most of my favourite pieces from his Spring 2014 Collection and even incorporated a few details from the Fall one as well.
Here are the five items that I will throw 'bows for on September 14th:
Sweater with Crane Embroidery (Top, $49.99 USD)
While I am a fan of this fall's more eclectic knitwear trend, I love this simple and slouchy sweater. The décolletage is one of my favourite areas to highlight, so I would wear this as deep scoopneck or a boatneck top.
If you follow every desire and everything you are interested in you will create something that is as unique as you. There was no idea to come up with and no technique to master — my career is a product of being me. Something everyone knows how to do if they let themselves.
Designer Francis Bitonti (a.k.a the man behind THAT Dita von Teese dress)
I love designers who can articulate a strong vision as a creator and not simply a maker of clothing. (Also, be still my ovaries... have you seen that man?!)
Happy National Lipstick Day! (wearing Proenza Schouler x MAC Primrose Lipstick)
2014 Academy Awards "Look of the Night" - Menswear Edition: Chris Hemsworth - The men of Hollywood stole the Red Carpet this year! I enjoyed seeing the high amount of navy suits which is a nice departure from the tuxedo.
Chris Hemsworth took top prize with this lovely three-piece suit. I'm especially transfixed by the eggplant-hued blazer. Love everything from the black lapels to the straight fold of his pocket square. His best accessory: Daddy "Pregnancy Glow" (That has to be a real thing, right? Just look at him!)
Honourable Mentions:
Kevin Spacey
Jason Sudekis
Benedict Cumberbatch
Ethan Hawke
Jeremy Renner (I miss his Clark Gable 'stache)
2014 Academy Awards "Look of the Night": Kate Hudson in Versace -Â Although I was rendered speechless and utterly disappointed by the lack of Christian Siriano Fall 2014 on the Red Carpet (Am I the only one?), an awards season favourite of mine -Â Kate Hudson - did not fail to impress.
It seems as if everyone in Hollywood got the Dior & Versace memo, but I'm glad to see that someone sticks to their tried-and-true formula: fitted column dresses with bold shoulders, a healthy dose of skin and stand-out details. The controlled draping and pearlescent beads made this a no-brainer for me.
Honourable Mentions:
Charlize Theron
Camilla Alves
Amy Adams
Karen O
Sari Mercer
Fall 2014 WTF?! - Statement Fur: Moschino versus Khloe Kardashian
Fall 2014 WTF?! - Spongebob Squarepants and Friends: So Gary popped up last season at Ashley Williams, now Spongebob at Moschino! What about Patrick?
Jeremy Scott for Moschino Fall 2014 - I can't lie to y'all. Aside from checking out my favourites, I have been biding my time until Jeremy Scott and Nicholas Ghesquière debuted their collections for Moschino and Louis Vuitton.
I adore Jeremy Scott and feel like he is one of the few designers that has truly navigated the high-low streetwear-cum-high-fashion trend authentically. He struck a great balance between representing Moschino, staying true to his own inspiration and keeping an ear to the ground for trends.
While presented in a light-hearted tone, there seems to be a deeper meaning in the show. How he played with logos, elevating mainstream/low-brow brands as if it were elite fashion houses (McDonald's "Golden Arches" over Chanel's signature grid motif? Brilliant!) is a great commentary on commercialism.
Also, I want ALL of the accessories and the shirt off of Jeremy's back.
It's as awesome as I dreamed it would be!
Fall 2014 Trends: Statement Jackets - Top: Zimmermann; Bottom: Ostwald Helgason, BCBG Max Azria, Prabal Gurung)
Fall 2014 WTF?! - Maybe Monika Kowalska should watch Border Security. Drug muling is no joke. This A Détacher outfit is adorable, but it left such a bad impression that couldn't even pin it.
Fall 2014 Trends: Epic Knits (Top: Alexander Wang; Bottom: both, Prabal Gurung)
