It's hard to believe, but Larxene's somebody, Arlene, was a sweet person. The best in her class at Radiant Gardens High and she even often did things to give back to the community-- shocking I know. Many people called her a "friend" and her best friend was who she fell in love with. They seemed to float together, the stereotypical high school sweethearts.
Of course, a tragedy must line our story. A thunderstorm. All it took was him to ask her if she wanted to go on a picnic with him-- after all, she did love storms. Of course she agreed and he took her to the square. The set up their picnic on one of the flower bed gardens that Arlene and her boyfriend helped plant.
It had started off well enough. Every time lightning would burst through the dark sky, Arlene would close her eyes, with a smile, and count how many miles it was away. Her smile would grow when the thunder cracked all around them. Suddenly, her boyfriend stood and held out his hand to her. She gladly took it only to see him kneel before her. Her eyes widened, knowing what the moment was. Though, the question never left his lips. Lightning struck the male before her, shooting her back onto the ground. She sat up quickly, calling his name multiple times as she shook him.
"No," she whispered. Her hands slowly retracted from the boy's lifeless body. She shook her head, tears filling her eyes. She brought a hand to her face, biting on the side of her index finger as a sob escaped her.
Arlene wasn't the same person after that. She didn't smile, her eyes always seemed dead. That's when she decided.
She sat in class thinking this, when thunder cracked outside the window. She watched as lightning struck the top of the building. She slowly rose from her seat, muttering a fake sickness to the teacher before excusing herself from class. She climbed to the roof, her eyes fixated on the sky.
"Why did you take him? He was-- innocent!"
Still, the sky gave no response.
"If anything you should have taken me! He deserved to live! Why not--"
The sky's response was a single lightning bolt in the distance.
"Just do it! I'm ready!" She held out her arms, ready to receive whatever came her way.
The thunder cracked with another lightning bolt following it. With a whisper of his name, Arlene fell as silence, once again, filled the atmosphere.
