Is it dramatic to say that Dave’s highschool trauma or more specifically the way people talk about it and the way Dave views himself because of it makes me sick to my stomach.

Now maybe I’m just as crazy as Dave or there is no reason why Dave should mourn Billy the day after he died.

Billy had the devil in him a tormented everyone around him and I’m not saying he deserved to be hurt or go blind or feel like there was no other way out except for suicide, but I am saying that the system failed Dave and after going through something so traumatic I don’t think he should have to lie or feel like he’s a bad guy cause he doesn’t feel sympathy for the person who took so much from him

When Amy comes into Dave’s life and he starts to think she’s the only person who needs him and talks like she’s the only person he’s living for or loves but I know that’s not the truth

I’m censuring the book! Sue me his use of slurs pisses me off

Don’t get me wrong I love Amy deeply, she means the world to me and you’d have to pry her from my cold dead hand and also you’d have to deal with Dave which scary for you

We mostly get things from Dave’s perspective and he definitely doesn’t claim to be smart or anything close to it but he also acts like he doesn’t say nearly as much bs as John which we know isn’t true but it’s really funny when he makes the dumbest possible remark

And I truly believe he was being dead serious

I love Dave, John and Amy so much they mean so much to me and to eachother but like the relationship between John and Dave is so crazy cause they both don’t really value their own lives and don’t seem to think the other needs them as much as they do (maybe John kinda knows he has to hold up Dave more than Dave knows how much John counts on him) but anyway when Dave’s talking about sending Amy away and hoping she moves on cause then he can kill himself and no one will care is just ridiculous.

Like John doesn’t even cross his mind as someone who needs him or would care if he lost him, and as the readers we know that couldn’t be further from the truth (specifically cause of how John behaves in tbifos)

Anyway my whole point was supposed to be about how in the beginning of jdate when Dave is running around trying (poorly) to save John or at least figure out what’s wrong with John and he thinks “if he gets sick and dies, Robert Marley, they’re gonna find you in a ditch somewhere” is just so important cause we don’t really get to see Dave face John’s death almost as soon as he finds out John died in the police station he gets a phone call which at the very least is confusing now to mention the tiny bit of sauce he was on. If Dave actually thought John was dead and there wasn’t a sign of life from him for as long as Dave is gone in tbifos he really would’ve found the dead body of Robert Marley or his spirit and killed it again. Later on I also think Dave’s love (platonic or not) for John and need for him gets a little quieter cause he definitely is putting in more work to live for Amy. But I truly believe it would still crumble Dave. Our Dave at least cause there’s that whole other versions of Dave and in all those worlds John did die for real at some point and apparently that makes life easier (again I still haven’t reread that book so correct me if I’m wrong) but our Dave just won’t stand for it.

Oh a difference in the movie and book that bothers me sometimes (and correct me if I’m wrong I’m planning to rewatch the movie but it’s been a bit) is the “I’m tempted to say something like, ‘who would have thought that John would help bring about the end of the world?’” But that’s just like where it ends in the movie vs the book where Dave makes it clear that it would be a cool thing to say but that John’s exactly the guy that’s gonna be involved in the end of the world

I feel like that changes the meaning a decent amount of at least gives movie John a different introduction

Excuse the fact that I’m just rambling about this and it doesn’t really go anywhere I’m sending half thoughts out into the universe

The concept of John bragging about how much he sweats to Dave absolutely wild… they’re gay and in love

Rereading all of the John Dies at the end books cause there’s a specific line in the third or fourth one about code red I need to find anyway I marked up the first book like crazy and I’ll be sharing my thoughts that are mostly nothingness
