HC O1. NAMES

my elmo + @ratcatchr’s drake are both trans men ! in school they discovered they were both trans, + helped come up with names together + for each other. drake had wanted a name that sounded manly, so naturally he chose ‘drake mallard’, roughly translating to ‘man duck.’ for a surname, elmo came up with sputterspark with relative ease, as electricity was one of his larger passions + one he felt resonated + represented him.

as for a first name, he originally came up with the name elmer, to which drake stated it sounded like a geeky name, and instead changed it to 'elmo,' to which he took a liking to. beneath is a small transcript of how part of the naming process had went down

elmo: hmmm .. how about ‘elmer sputterspark !!’ drake: BAH ! that sounds like a geek name ! elmer sounds like a name a duck and rabbit hunter would have !! or a glue ! no, no, that wont do. elmo: gee, thanks for the support, ‘mr. man.’ drake: hmm .. (scribbles out the “-er” and replaces it with an “o”) how about that? elmo: ..... elmo ? elmo sputterspark .. that doesn’t sound half bad ! drake: of course not, i came up with it ! elmo: (rolling his eyes and smiling) uh huh, sure, drakey.

my wife came to the realization that the reason megavolt's colour changed so drastically from how dark he was in high school is likely because he singed all his fur off so naturally i had to draw him as a hairless rat

elmo was in a daze , shook from the dramatically large fall. he let out an OOF ! as drake caught him , shaking his head & rubbing the part of his helmet where he had the most impact. he grumbled to himself before popping his helmet off , a mumbled “ owwwh - whee .. ” escaping his muzzle.

he had promised drake that neither of them would get hurt in their staged fights , now that they had made a proper reconnection after the night of the reunion. of course , it wasn’t too difficult for elmo to still get into the bit. ( after all , who else would save his luminous brothers ? ) but alas , with his passion for liberation came a certain element of risk , one which he was now being reprimanded for sternly.

“ well , what else was i supposed to do ? let bulby here get turned into a glass pancake ??!! i don’t think so , mister ! ” he turns his head towards said lightbulb , currently residing in his grasp , curled tightly to his chest like one cradles a child. he gently hushes it , promising it that he’ll keep it safe , before tucking it away in classical cartoon fashion.

“ & besides , i had it under control ! i - i just .. lost my footing at the end there , that was all .. ” he would never admit to drake that he made a careless blunder that could’ve cost him more than the 59 cents the lightbulb was worth. with that small lie , he would turn his gaze away , ears folded down & RED dusting his cheeks from embarrassment.
