Idk bout y’all families but mine was THE MOST UPSET when this movie came out saying it “portrayed negative stereotypes about the black community” (e.g the issue of crack use) and tbh it was the biggest show of peacocking to try and cover up their ridiculous homophobia and just… idk.

Don’t let this movie be seen as anything other than groundbreaking for the discussion of gay issues in the black community is what I’m tryna say ig. This movie was absolutely incredible and the exact type of representation I wish I had when I was younger and coming out and I wish more black parents treated their gay kids like this
