So I did:

“Yield Buteo, this is one battle that you cannot win.” The water strider lifted his wings skyward, his crest bristling aggressively as he approached his rival.

The raptor shaman swung his head from side to side, sizing up the taller avi-mage. True, the marsh bird had height on his side but that merely meant that Herodias’ fall, when it came, would be all the more spectacular.

Buteo’s clan was depending on him.  If he was unable to repel this usurper the rest of the raptor tribes would be decimated one by one after his. The hawk raised his own pinions, breast feathers flaring as he prepared for what possibly might be his last duel.

Two sets of yellow eyes locked, each blazing with equal ferocity and determination as the midwinter snow fell with silent indifference around them. In moments the meadow’s peace would be shattered…in moments, it would begin.

Question For My Fanfic Author Followers...…

Have any of you had someone contact you about re-writing and then posting your stories by abridging/altering/turning sexual relationships into AOR/ACE relationships?

I’ve been writing/posting fanfics for over 10 years now and this is the first time I’ve had a request of this nature. It seems kind of strange to me but I’d like others thoughts on the subject.

‘The Show Before The Show’ - An Average Fan’s Review

I’ll state upfront that I am neither an expert on jazz or magic, yet at the risk of sounding plebian: “I know what I like”. Ladies and gentlemen, I LIKE this CD! I have several of Mr. Jones’ other recordings (jazz listening doesn’t get any better than ‘Live At the Green Mill’....get this CD and you will NOT be sorry. Track 3 alone is worth not only the price of the disc but of shelling out for overnight shipping!!)

Mike Jones is a superb pianist and as other (and much more qualified) reviewers have said Penn Jillette’s bass playing is joyous to listen to. The duo are well suited to the pieces they’ve chosen to perform on this recording and it is from first track to last easy and approachable listening. In short, I loved it and cannot recommend it highly enough.

‘The Show Before The Show’ liner notes are by Jillette’s partner in business, Teller. For fans who are unfamiliar with how Mr. Jones came to join the Penn & Teller family, Teller’s notes are a concise recap of the pianist’s odd journey from playing background music for a Las Vegas restaurant to having one of his bosses’ as his backup instrumentalist as well as detailing Penn’s history with the upright bass. On a personal note, I appreciate Teller’s references to the Music Man (Meredith Wilson would be pleased I think...). 

In short, the whole package delivers on all levels, from cover art to content. If you‘re a casual P&T fan, then you’ll like it as an addition to your memorabilia collection. If you’re a music fan, you’ll appreciate the CD all the more. If you’re interested in a listen then buy the download. I actually have both the digital (thank you iTunes) copy and the CD itself (again, worth the liner notes & cover art) and am supremely jealous not to be able to pick up a copy on vinyl. Figuring in the hotel room, plane/show tickets and gift shop $....it would be the most expensive record I’d ever purchase...but oh man so, so worth it!

Unsure where this came from, if not the palsied hands of the good Lord himself.

Simple premise: Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” slipped from 45 to 33 rpm. Nothing more; no studio trickery, no trip hop drum breaks. The guitar lopes back in and around itself. The bass becomes elastic, hot rubber. The violin stabs become sustained cello lines. The backing choir’s split harmony rattles around, slinking ghostly into the corner.  And most importantly, Parton’s once-frantic vocal is transformed from bubblegum country scrawl into something approximating field holler reverence. 

An already perfect song made transcendental..
