The infamous Chivalry gap relationship
now that the harrenhal/mad king cast list has been announced (https://www.rsc.org.uk/game-of-thrones-the-mad-king/cast-and-creatives) - worth clicking on the photos btw, they give a list of each actor's previous works including previous RSC experience - do you have any thoughts about the casting?
okay wowww thanks for sending this, i hadn't seen it yet!!!!
first impressions:
- diverse casting of poc actors in main roles!!!! like almost all the main roles!!! i feel like uk theatre productions are great at doing this and i've seen this happen more and more, but this still took me by surprise, not sure why! seems like a pretty bold thing to do with such an established franchise and characters as well known as the starks. unfortunately i know some parts of the fandom on reddit, twitter, and even on here are going to be disgustingly racist about this so i hope the actors are getting support. however theatre is different and less visible than tv/film so hopefully it won't be as terrible as it was with the velaryons on hotd. great visibility for these young actors though!
- VERY blonde jaime. hell yeah
- ok so catelyn will be in it... i don't know about this. i don't want them to lean into the ned/catelyn side of things and make her have a big role, but if she just appears with the tullys and meets ned and it's a cute little nod to their future relationship, that's fine i guess
- and cersei too... seems like she has a small role but again i think jaime has his own story in this that doesn't really involve cersei and adding twincest things could distract from that so let's keep it small
- rhaegar actor out of the gates with one (1) theatre production and one (1) film credit under his belt. all right let's see what this man can do
- lyanna actress is scottish!! WAIT NED ACTOR IS SCOTTISH. SCOTTISH STARKS OMGGGG YAYYY
- i'm excited to see what young varys will add to the story! i wanna see his take on all that goes down at harrenhal, even if it's only in silly cryptic little jokes
- tywin appearance yippee
- viserys!!!
- excited about all the periphery characters they've added—it's a big cast! i think lady whent and rossart will be very fun to see. and of course the kingsguard
- i don't think i've seen any of these actors on film/tv before, although it looks like some of them have done smaller roles, so this is super great! i expected some more famous names to pop up, again just given that it's game of thrones related, but i really do admire the rsc for sticking to their guns and hiring early-career actors who have mostly theatre backgrounds. everything i've seen about the show (from being staged at the rsc, being a smaller phsyical theatre, cheap tickets) is really committing to being a theatre production unattached from the hype of the hbo shows, so i'm really excited for what that means in terms of the script!!! i think we are going to get a very faithful adaptation that fleshes out the story and side characters we've never seen before so i am very, very excited! looking forward to anything more we learn about the play and about first reviews! :)
harrenhal tickets are max £99 and as low as £18!! i can't go but this is super great and there are still tickets left for lots of dates (unexpected especially considering the theater looks pretty small). updating for any uk friends 🫡

oh god this just made my stomach hurt imagine being alicent and your child comes out looking like your best friend and you see them grow up and note the similarities, remembering how rhaenyra looked at every age your child is reaching. and it's because they share the same father, because your best friend's father coerced you into marriage and made you carry his children. oh alicenttt
Wolf girl
actually jace should get to live and all the characters i don't like should die
so jace and daemon are beefing, aegon and aemond are beefing, the hightowers are doing a savanarola-era florence thing to king's landing, alicent has switched sides, and rhaenyra still hasn't made any decisions about what she's going to do in the war and continues to harp on about that damn prophecy... girls it pains me to say it but i think the structural issues of season 2 are in fact going to affect season 3 and things aren't magically going to get better 😔

so jill biden will not be in heated rivalry s2 but that doesn't stop me from imagining all the roles she could have played:
-shane's aunt on his dad's side who hugs him and says "i'm so proud of you" when he comes out
-receptionist at ilya's therapist's office who recognizes him and it freaks him out
-PILOT ON THE CENTAURS PLANE
-equally, flight attendant on the plane who bangs her head against the wall and passes out to add some stakes and drama
-post-game interviewer asking shane and ilya about their rivalry
-female roger crowell
