Trying to get the horizontal proportions to match with the established character.
It's harder than it looks since we get to see just how thick the armor is. Also the head has to have the same dimensions.
I'll get there.

How did you start to make games (as a hobby)
Damn, I haven't logged in to my tumblr for almost 2 months.
No better time to answer this question tho.
I started making the game around january when I had summer vacation time to kill and wanted to pretty my portfolio. I work as a software engineer intern and in programming jobs having some projects behind you matter most.
I started with "The C Programming Language", also known as K&R and that's what got me going. Eventually I started reading about computer graphics and started my own engine. I did very basic games first, like pong and and a crappy galaga clone. Maybe I make it sound easy but If you have never programmed before it's an overwhelming task no doubt. Take it slow and don't give up. Or just use gamemaker if you are impatient.
As for the art, while I have gotten better, I started being absolutely SHIT at it. Keep practicing is all I can say.
Sadly due to school and work I have absolutely no time to dev anymore. And once you have a pace going it's kind of sad to have to stop. I haven't touched the project for quite some time. Maybe tomorrow I'll take a peek at it.
Cheers m8
I'll animate the horizontal running animations first, hair later since it's somewhat more complicated.
Animating the shoulders and hair next.
Adding some detail to the 2.5D sprite.
Almost done
Almost done with exams.
Can't fucking wait.
The recap is dead.
Thanks to the recap guy for his efforts, I liked the idea a lot.
Not even 10 minutes after /agdg/ sees it.
Fucking love you goys.
Had an hour to kill.
Currently on exams
I have around 1 hour a day to spare, and I use it to eat.
Made a sprite to test the engine 2.5D collisions but since i have no time to dev...
Too much work
Can't dev at the moment, swarmed with stuff to do.
Funny glitch.
Diagonal aiming in 2D games?
Reconsidering it.
The sprites armor / weapons are currently place holders, gotta move on to some other parts of the game. But once I draw the final sprite, it won't be mirrored.
Moving on
Spend quite some time with the armor design.
Here are some of the ideas:
After some feedback apparently the simpler variant was the most liked, so here it is. Still adding detail tho.
Not final, but it's what I'll be using while deving.
I'm looking for a pixel illustrator for a sketch I'm producing to draw a few modified versions of Street Fighter characters. It's a paid job - all my animator contacts are not experienced in pixel art and I found your blog so I thought I'd give it a shot. Wondering if you'd be interested in discussing or if you know more 8 bit animators that would be!
Got an example?
Don't want to to say yes to something out of my skill level.
I'm done for tonight, I like the shape of this particular armor, I'll expand on it later.
Still can't some up with some colors tho.
Why can't I reply to replies?
Anyway.
Someone pointed out that I could greys-scale the sprite and let the player mess with the hue so they can just have their way. It's a neat idea but not a current priority.
I'm aiming for pre drawn sprites of each equipment. A lot easier now that I have the base running animation.
And palettes are a bitch in general, getting colors to match is more challenging than one might think.
I'm glad you enjoy the updates, more to come.
He will, but coming up with a unique space suit isn't easy since no matter what It ends up looking like some other existing armor.
I was aiming for an Issac Clark inspired suit but ended up looking more like the commando from Risk of Rain.
Also the MC is no longer square headed.
Note that I'm keeping the expression system from the past build, so helmets will be interchangeable.
At first I wondered why but after seeing your chicken run, will do.
Last but not least, someone asked me about the collision detection in the game but can't find the post.
Once it's at least in alpha, I'll open source the engine so anyone can see how it works.
