Why i think certain hate affects you more than compliments
I never understood when people say [blank]² when they have two of [blank].
No, you do not have cake², you have 2 cakes. You don't have cake × cake. What the fuck would that even look like. You have cake × 2. Stop it. Stop mislabeling your sets of two things.
hey you 🫵 yes you right there 🫵🫵 any book recommendations?????
I am afraid my taste in books is very elementary and basic :(( but here they are anyways! Make sure to look up the content warnings for them <3
Beloved – Toni Morrison <fiction. Very dark.
God help the child - Toni Morrison <fiction. Very dark.
Stiff - mary roach <non-fiction. Humorous. Morbid.
The red dragon - Thomas Harris <fiction. A bit dark
Picture of Dorian gray - Oscar wilde < fiction. Classic but istg it can be queer.
Everyone in this room will someday be dead - Emily austen < fiction. A bit existential.
The stranger - Albert camus <fiction/philosophy. Absurdist iirc
Lolita - Vladimir nabokov <cried in the first three pages and never finished it. If you want to sob this is the one. Very dark.

The Caterpillar-Mimicking Spider: this species of jumping spider mimics a lichen moth caterpillar, possibly as a way to deter predators
This species (Uroballus carlei) is sometimes referred to as a caterpillar jumping spider or caterpillar jumper, because it bears such a striking resemblance to a caterpillar. It was discovered in Hong Kong just a few years ago.
Researchers believe that these strange little spiders mimic the caterpillars of local lichen moths, which may help to deter predators. Lichen moth caterpillars ingest toxic substances that make them unpalatable to predators, and they're covered in urticating hairs that cause pain and irritation when touched, so predators tend to avoid them. They also have aposomatic features that advertise those defense mechanisms, making them an excellent model for mimicry.
The spider's resemblance to a caterpillar may serve as a defense mechanism against larger vertebrates, such as birds, and as a predatory ploy against certain invertebrates, like small beetles, thus allowing the spider to avoid being eaten while also enabling it to stalk and capture its own prey more effectively.
This article described the discovery back in 2019:
A new spider has been discovered, hiding in plain sight in one of the most populated places on the planet. And there’s a good chance it went undiscovered for so long because it doesn’t really look like a spider at all, but more like a fuzzy baby caterpillar. Its cute, fuzzy appearance has led the newly discovered spider to be named Uroballus carlei, after Eric Carle – author of the wildly popular children’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Living alongside Uroballus carlei in the wooded areas of the Eastern District in Hong Kong are lichen moths. During the caterpillar stage, these moths are covered in bristly brown fur not dissimilar to Uroballus carlei. They live on a diet of lichen, and it’s this diet that gives them their name.

Elysia viridis: this sea slug is one of the few known animals that engage in photosynthesis, which allows it to survive without food for months at a time
Elysia viridis is a sacoglossan sea slug with an unusual ability -- it can "steal" the photosynthesizing cells from algae and then incorporate those cells into its own body, where they continue to convert sunlight into energy, producing nutrients that supplement the sea slug's diet.
Above: Elysia viridis
This process is known as kleptoplasty, which means "the theft of cells." It allows the sea slug to survive with limited food (or no food at all) for months at a time.
As this article explains:
In sacoglossan sea slugs, kleptoplasts are harboured in cells of the digestive diverticula, enabling their animal host to survive photo-autotrophically for periods ranging from days to up to one year after being "stolen" from algal cells.
Due to these remarkable features, sacoglossan sea slugs have frequently been termed "leaves that crawl" or "solar-powered sea slugs."
Elysia viridis can have a green or reddish-brown appearance, depending on the amount of light that it receives and the color of the algae that it consumes. Its body is also covered in glistening flecks of blue and green.
Above: the photo at the top shows Elysia viridis with its parapodial lobes folded over its body, while the photo at the bottom shows the same species with the lobes completely unfurled
The sea slug's body is flanked by two flat, wing-like lobes that can be folded inward or unfurled, allowing the animal to regulate its light exposure; when these flaps are stretched open, the sea slug looks remarkably similar to a leaf. Its body has a flat, wavy appearance, and its digestive glands are clearly visible, resembling the veins of a leaf.
Above: Elysia viridis as a baby
Several other sea slugs are also known to engage in photosynthesis, but this phenomenon is still remarkably rare among animals at large. Most of the animals that do photosynthesize are marine invertebrates, including sacoglossan sea slugs and certain nudibranchs.

The Phantom Nudibranch: this sea slug's body is almost completely transparent, revealing the delicate network of organs within
The scientific name of this species is Melibe colemani, and it's regarded as one of the most elusive nudibranchs in the world.
Above: the outline of the nudibranch's head is visible toward the upper left-hand corner of this photo
This species is commonly known as the phantom nudibranch (or ghost nudibranch) because its body is largely transparent. The sea slug's digestive glands are clearly visible, making it look like a mass of tangled yarn.
Above: close-up of the sea slug's head, showing a pair of rhinophores (which look like bunny ears) and an oral hood/mouth
Phantom nudibranchs can measure up to 5cm long. They actively hunt smaller molluscs and crustaceans, using an expandable oral hood to capture and ingest their prey. They're also equipped with a pair of rhinophores, which are sensory organs that can detect chemicals in the surrounding environment.
Above: a phantom nudibranch with its oral hood stretched open
This bizarre-looking species is typically found on the coral reefs that surround the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
