i've been using Erzulie Freda for separation and reconciliation work, all which have successfully manifested but I am now aware that she isn't the lwa to call for love work or long term relationships. Please help me in guiding me to the right spirit without making her mad. I will still worship her and call on her for other situations, but as far as long term love, I hope you can advise me on a more appropriate lwa. How about Oshun?

So, there's a lot to chat about here.

To start, if you don't have a lineaged teacher who is instructing you on how you may serve the lwa as an uninitiated person, you should probably consider not 'using' the lwa for spiritual work. They are not tools and we do not use them; the concept of use as a tool is kinda offensive in a lot of ways...these are spirits of liberation, and we do not reduce them to subjugated beings. In particular, trying to 'use' a spirit like Freda will end in tears and unhappiness.

To serve the spirits and engage in spiritual work with them requires instructions for reasons you state: folks do not and cannot really know the ins and outs of spirits and what they are willing to do without the guidance of legit elders. At best, it's a quick way to offend the spirits and at worst, it's a one way ticket to some really unpleasant stuff, really fast. Spirits are not gumball machines and when we try to treat them as such, we don't have relationships that end up mutually beneficial. They should not be propitiated for spiritual work outside of instruction from a legitimate priest of the religion; this is appropriative action.

More often than not, someone trying to use a spirit for work when they don't have the spiritual license for that is not actually speaking to what they think they are speaking to. There are lots of spirits that would be happy to be called whatever name you are willing to use because you are giving them attention. For priests and students of priests, there are ways we know how to discern whether it is Freda (or a Bawon or an Ogou or whatever), and priests have the license to ask that a spirit reveal themselves clearly.

Likewise, no spirit is served alone or worked alone in Haitian Vodou, ever. We have full spiritual courts, and no one ever has Freda (or whomever) as their sole lwa. This is a signal that someone is not receiving appropriate instruction.

Yes, it is entirely possible that, if Freda was listening, she will be upset. Freda is easily upset, and especially when things are not done correctly for her according to regleman/ritual order. She has taboos of what she will accept or not accept, states in which she will welcome people to speak with her and states in which she should be avoided. There's no way for someone to discern at a distance, barring life catastrophe, whether she is upset or was listening to what you asked (because your work could have been pure chance), and, if she was indeed listening, what she wants in return for being involved in a situation or multiple situations. Spirits have to be paid in particular ways for work, which is why legitimate teachers are important.

And, the lwa are not worshipped. Worship is for Bondye/God. The lwa are our intermediaries to God, and we serve them. Freda may not want your attention, or she may want some very expensive attention. Discernment of this should be done with a legitimate manbo or houngan if you are interested in righting your personal ship here and making any amends that may be necessary.

There is no suggesting other spirits to work with--no one should be propitiating lwa for work without guidance--and Oshun is not a lwa, she is an Orisa from an entirely different set of religions. I am not her priest, but it's a safe assumption that she can be as temperamental as Freda when someone approaches her without license to do so.

If you just want magic, do your magic without involving spirits that you need deeper commitments and permissions to access. There are prescribed ways to learn and approach spirits when you are in need, but those things come from teachers and community.
