Beatles X Reader: Fantasy AU
Note: this is my first attempt at world building, and this series is based on a lot of modern romantasy books so if you find any references 🤷♀️
The thing crawled through her mind, awakening all her inner senses in the night. She pressed her cold feet onto the stone. Her paper thin lace dress followed her. She made no noise, moving swiftly through the halls like a snake.
The only light in the dim hallways were candles sitting on alcoves in the walls. The girl grabbed one of them, feeling the heat of the flames on her palms. She continued blindly through the dark halls, through the long staircases where dust shuffled beneath her toes.
Finally after long ways of nothingness, she reached the grand hall—the double oak doors on the opposite right of the stairwell. The doors were carved with images of Fae history. Their triple faced goddess (Hekate) holding the world in her crooked hands as she shaped it from nothing, the first Kreatures being born (Kreatures being a blanket term for everything that walked the earth that 'wasn't' human), the war of Babylon (a continent on their planet which was famously known for its battle between Kreatures and humans), and the peace between Kreatures and humans.
The Fae knights guarding the stairwell in full armor—peered at her through their helmets. "Miss Halkias?"
The girl did not answer, she swam away without a word. She continued to ignore the all Fae Knights that she passed. They started to notice her; and especially her eyes. They were as white as a ghost. No iris at all, just a pure milk like color. The knights started to talk amongst themselves. But they agreed not to mention the strange behavior to the king. The girl was young after all. They had thought she was on her way to see a secret lover.
Finally she had made it to gates outside. They peered out into an open land that led into the village. She opened them with a swish of her hand; Magick. A force that infected the entire planet. Nobody knew where it came from, but the very first Kreatures that were born—they had it. They slowly learned its uses and that everything had a price.
The price being if you used too much Magick—it would tear apart your soul. So most things had to be done naturally. You weren't allowed to make things like food or money appear with a summoning charm, it was law to make sure nobody was lost to stupidity.
Things like building, cooking, and creating were left to the work of Le Naturales (The name of craft without using Magick). But for some odd reason that the girl kept to herself, the use of Magick didn't affect her. She was free to use as much Magick as she pleased, a not a soul knew. Not even her father.
The girl made it to the stone bridge that led into the village. Whispers of the Midnight People followed her. The midnight people were a humanoid bat like species that had wings, snouts, and fur. This was the only type of Kreature that couldn't use Magick. They stayed out in the night, feeding on the moonlight and sick animals. But during the day they mostly hid in their homes.
Their species didn't have an exact name like Sirens and Werwolves did. They made up the name of 'midnight people'. That's what they wanted to be called. So many moons ago, King Fiverik declared that they be allowed to call themselves that. But the midnight people weren't always around.
They used to live in caves before they met other Kreatures. They were a lone species, and not much was known about them. Still not much is known.
The girl passed them all, their dark beady eyes staring into her soul. Finally, the girl stopped at a small home near the middle of the village. The midnight people stopped to watch her as she entered the home without being allowed to.
"ti kánei aftí?" One of them clicked, holding their children close to them. What is she doing?
Then the screams began.
