Reflection on Symposium
After the symposium, which is entitled “Ano Ba Tayo Bes?” I learned that if you want to have a good and long relationship, you must have a high Emotional Intelligence. You must be good in all clusters of Emotional Intelligence, which are the social skills and awareness, self-awareness and management. When it comes to oral communication, you must be confident at all times when you are saying something. For example in the symposium, you must present your topic confidently to the audience because they will easily understand what the topic all about is. If you nervous or talking too fast or delays on your speech, your audience will not understand your topic.
Our first problem is our speakers or the reporters because our speakers are nervous or did not say it clearly. We were very nervous during the symposium because we think that our audience will be bored or just keep talking to each other. But our audience listens to us because they are related to that topic which is relationships. The Second problem is the flow of the symposium. When we are practicing for the symposium, we exceeded the allotted time given by our teachers which is one hour only. The most time needed in our symposium is the discussion and the activity.
To avoid these kinds of problems, we must always be prepared in the symposium. The presentation, the emcees, the speakers, must be prepared in the symposium. If not, the symposium will be a failure. Next is for the speakers, the speakers must be speaking confidently at their topic. The speakers must master or greatly studied the topic. They must not be speaking too fast and feeling nervous when speaking because of course your audience will not understand what the speakers are saying. Next is that you must choose a topic that is related to your audience, for example stress and relationships.
For me, the experience was stressful and a little nervous but it is amazing and learned a lot. My confidence boosts up and gains my social skills to other people. More activities of this can boost your confidence when reporting in front and can help you in the future if you are making a symposium or a seminar.
On a scale of 1-10, I would rate myself a 7 in participating and contributing to the success of the performance task. I rate myself a 7 because yes I contribute to the group and I was the speaker. But during the symposium, I speak too fast because it was overtime and I have lack of information for my topic, for me. But I didn’t expect that our group was the best symposium according to the teachers who are observing us in the symposium. It was a surprise for me because I thought that we are not the only one who is best presenting the symposium.
