This project began as an exploration into the idea of creating spaces from stories and how, because I have never been particularly sociable it has always been very important to me to have my own space, one that inspire me.
I began this project interpreting the brief quite literally, making satisfyingly perfect brush marks by attaching a brush to a compass. I felt they said allot about my need for control and attention to detail. they developed into very modular, digital patterns, into screenprints and finally into a collection of interactive elements .
My response was inspired by the 'Brand Worlds' that Simon Manchipp co-founder of SomeOne creates when rebranding companies like open source software developers Tizen. My outcome is my very own brand world, a worlds where which I hope is inviting to others. The modular pieces deliberately aim to eliminating any doubt that someone wanting to interacting might have about their level of artistic skill, its designed to appeal to all.
Although the grid does not represent the freedom I felt as a child, or truly replicate the experience of drawing in the walls, playing with the boards reminded me of the the Lego, Meccano, Kenect and electronics kits I used to love, It successfully took me right back to my childhood and the things that defined me.
Initially I resisted this project brief, I couldn't see an alternative to making a film about myself and to me that felt very self-centred, I like to create things that people can participate In, when I realised I could do both, and tell people about my experiences and give them new ones, I started had a great amount I fun with the project.
