Just to raise awareness at the situation in Canada right now to my non-Canadian followers: Toronto has been ranked as having the worst air quality in the world right now due to wildfires.

Toronto is not a wildfire-prone area. It is extremely close to the USA border, and the smog is currently affecting NY right now. There is literal chunks of debris in the air. The sky is orange, and the sun is nowhere to be seen.

Climate change and its effects are right outside your door. Data centres are the cause for the insane heat waves across the globe, and the increase in wildfires and other natural disasters.

You will watch recordings of the world burn around you, and only when you are behind the camera will you realize there is no going back.

Stop the data centres. Protect our planet.

Anyone can be a misogynist whether or not they grew up as a woman and whether or not they are a woman now. Trans men and trans women both experience misogyny on top of transphobia, transmisogyny, and transandrophobia. This has to be a baseline understanding we all have.

However…. Sometimes it feels like certain people, and I’ve noticed it usually be women who do not necessarily identify as lesbian (bi and pan women) but it’s def smth I see sometimes within the lesbian community as well, will use “femme” and “butch” to actually mean “sub” and “dom” or “bottom” and “top” strictly from the sense of a heteronormative lens of one being the “woman”, ie the “one who is dominated” and the other is the man, ie the “one who dominates”. Or they exclusively view Butchfemme as a kink/sex dynamic and consider absolutely nothing else about butch or femme as an identity external to sex

The people who view Butchfemme that way often view Butches as Men Lite(TM) who are exclusively daddy doms and femmes are women who are exclusively princess subs and in both cases, when talking about butches or femmes, extremely misogynistic language is used to put both of them down. And when I see people talk about them like that, i ALMOST understand how people come to the “butchfemme is heteronormative” conclusion, even if it’s still stupid as fuck.

But then like the solution is to actually talk to ACTUAL lesbians, actual butches and actual femmes, and understand that Butchfemme is NOT describing top/bottom dynamics, and that both are actually closer to gender and political identity than they are anything else

I've seen the sentiment "the R word isn't offensive anymore because *I* don't use it on disabled people" float around my instagram page. It's worth criticizing to me for several reasons. One, its still an outdated, historically extremely oppressive, eugenicist slur. Two, how do you know they're not disabled? How do you know they are not just barely scraping by and can't afford a diagnosis?

The rest of this post is a self indulgent rant that brings up some triggering topics :') it supports the above statement anecdotally but its ultimately for myself

I've been called retarded throughout my life, by friends, family, even my very first psychiatrist. It never felt like anything more than a slur with plausible deniability. Now, I'm getting diagnosed with autism to pull together the other random diagnosises that were put on me because I wasn't understood or believed the first time. It was humiliating trying to tell people I was agoraphobic, that I have arfid, that my ptsd is triggered so easily, I sometimes don't know how to talk, that I hit my head when i'm "scared". And I can get "scared" often. Even by lights or sounds! IT WAS HUMILIATING. I STOPPED BELIEVING MYSELF BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE DID. That I had to kill myself out of defectiveness. And now my future feels bright again. I had to graduate 19 months early to handle my agoraphobia, and I thought I'd never want to go back to school, but now that I know accommodations and therapies are an option, it sounds ... finally plausible to go to a class again.
