‘Aish..’ you hissed as you felt your fiancés palm fall on your cheek as your alarm clock kept ringing, making the most obnoxious sound possible. ‘Why on earth did I buy this little shit??’ you thought to yourself. You quickly swiped his fingers away and told the clock to ‘shut up’ as if it would stop yelling at you on command. You did that a lot actually. Always speaking and ranting to object as if they could hear you. This was an outcome of your not-so-social childhood, when all the people who you could openly express your feelings to were your stuffed animals. Thanks to your middle school bullies who made sure that you hesitated to speak your mind even in your adult life. All through high school and university, you had a hard time connecting with other people, especially men your age. Every single time someone tried to get close to you and get to know you, you would either ignore them or push them away in a fear of embarrassment. Until you met him. Your fiancé, Kwon Jiyong. Yes, the man, the myth, the legend himself.
You met him during Seoul fashion week where you were working as an assistant coordinator a few years ago. You just happened to pump into him while he was having lunch backstage with Soojoo and his other model friends. Being the gentleman that he is, he introduced himself to everyone who entered the room, including me. Despite his high status, you didn’t feel intimidated. Mostly because having this job, meeting celebrities was nothing new to you. But still, because of your childhood, you felt awkward speaking with people who you knew had amazing social skills that they had probably been practising for years. However; Jiyong was different. He was more reserved and quiet compared to the most A-list celebrities that you had met throughout your career. He seemed genuinely curious about you and your job, asking questions and overall being very attentive. The moment felt almost unreal to you, because if this was any other man, you would have bailed the situations already, but because of his calm nature, you felt at ease to converse with him. Maybe it was because he is older than you that he’s more mature compared to guys your age.
You got up from the bed after you had finished slandering your alarm clock, and as you were leaving the bedroom you could hear a faint deep groan from under the blankets. You let out a light chuckle. Jiyong has never been a morning person. You let him sleep late when he was home because you knew that he wouldn’t be getting much sleep once his schedule started again. You started to make breakfast, while also making sure Jiyong’s morning coffee was waiting for him on the breakfast bar once he was ready to get out of bed. Even though he enjoyed sleeping late, he would still get up moments later after you, because sleeping late is not as much fun if you have to cuddle yourself. And in all honestly, he would much rather spend his mornings tired with you than alone in the blankets.
‘Morning baby’, Jiyong said in his still raspy morning voice, which in your mind resembled a lot like the sound a dragon would make. ‘on brand...’ you thought to yourself before letting out a little giggle. ‘Morning handsome’ you answered back while giving a little peck on his cheek.
‘Sorry you had to wake up with my fingers all up in your face this morning. You know that happens when I sleep on my back.’
‘I know Ji. Good thing we didn’t get up to anything last night. Despite knowing myself, I would not want your after-fun-fingers anywhere near my face.’ You said as you scrunched up your nose. Jiyong gave you his signature gummy grin as you two continued to eat breakfast.
‘I heard you get angry at your alarm clock again. What did that poor little guy do to you?’ Jiyong laughed as he remembered you shouting at your grey little devil that was sitting on your bedside table.
‘It was yelling at me and I did not appreciate it. So, I let it know that.’ You said, sounding very matter of fact-ly.
‘Well you can only blame yourself for that, since you bought it.’
Jiyong had always found your habit of speaking to objects adorable, and more than anything, quite entertaining. He knew about your past, so he did not feel the need to make fun of you for it. It was actually one of the things you two bonded over once you two started to spend time together. You had to deal with bullies and Jiyong, being the celebrity that he is, of course had faced all sorts of trouble and hate throughout his career. Because of his job, he too could not openly express his thoughts and feelings without a fear of judgment. He was able to relate to you and you could relate to him. Over the years you two became each others security blankets. You could openly and honestly share your feelings to each other without the fear of judgement or embarrassment. He sometimes even encouraged you to speak to things while playing along, because he knew that it made it easier for you to sort out your thoughts.
Jiyong got up from the breakfast bar stool and walked around the kitchen island to stand behind you. He hugged you from behind, giving you a kiss on the back of your head.
‘Ah babe, you know I love you, but try not get angry at the microwave when I’m gone. You know he makes most of our meals.’
‘Sure. Unless he beeps too long.’ You said with a serious facial expression.
‘Maybe you should start paying him for the verbal beating he keeps getting as your go-to punch bag. One day you’re gonna receive an angry letter from the microwave social services if you don’t reward him for taking your shit.’
‘I will clean him if I start ranting at him again alright? That will be my payment for your efforts for putting up with me.’ You said as you pointed at your microwave that was sitting on the kitchen counter. You looked back at your fiancé who was standing next to your front door putting on his jacket and ready to leave for work. He was smirking at you softly as he listened to you talking to your microwave.
‘You know, sometimes I think whether it would be possible for you to fall in love with some of these things. Considering how passionate you get sometimes ㅋㅋㅋ..’
‘I hate you Ji, you know that?’ you said while giving a little push to his arm as he was trying to tie his shoelaces.
He always liked teasing you, he’s always been cheeky like that.
‘Hate me enough to marry me?’ He said while grinning at you.
You gave him a sigh, ‘Just enough...’
