From Jamaican Patois, to AAVE, to Dominican Spanish & more, the story of our language is a story of resilience, beauty, survival and LEGACY. Cuz who doesn’t want to sound like us. Shout out to the funniest and the most caring people I’ve ever met. Being your mom and now as you’re older (11 & almost 15), allowing me to get a glimpse into who you are becoming as people, has been one of the greatest joys of my life. They don’t tell you how much you learn from your kids. The lessons they teach you. Being a mother has allowed me to give grace to my own parents and realize that none of us know what we’re doing BUT when you know better, YOU DO BETTER. Being a mom during this time in our country’s history has also allowed me to excitedly unlearn things that don’t belong in today’s world any longer and re-learn with my children. I value their opinions on things and as they continue to grow, I hope our friendship does too. Scarlett and Tyger, thank you for choosing me to be your mommy. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grannies, aunts, sisters, step-moms and everyone who is raising other people’s children. Michael and I did a film together in 2004 and he was a joy to work with. He was always down to talk about process and story. He loved being at work & everything about it. His star was on the rise. California!!! Republicans in the state are trying to turn us into Texas & Florida. They’ve been wanting California for decades & they have the chance on Sept 14th. We can’t let that happen.
