Eat Spaghetti, Motherfuckers (1952)
Should I write to the address??
Things this blog hates…. Long winded recipes.
I have a good one coming up.
But first…
It was a crisp, fall evening.
For those days when you just don’t care what you eat…
Still not sure what this is.
For those unsure what to cook for dinner today…
Don’t cook this.
Just what I never wanted!
Curried Fish In Rice Ring
I look in awe upon the culinary genius who came up with this tasty treat. Who here isn’t craving an enticing fish sauce? I mean it IS curried! And for presentation you cannot beat peas dispersed among a rice ring. Something has to hold all of that yummy fish sauce in it!
Cucumber Cool Salads
What lime gelatin isn’t complete without cucumber, onion and celery in it? Feeding this to any living being should be against the law and considered a form of abuse. The sooner I forget I saw this recipe the better off I will be.
Cherry Pineapple Bologna
My Dad was not a good cook. He would be the first to admit it. Oh he might manage to make a peanut butter sandwich without ruining the bread. Maybe he could fry up some bologna to put on a sandwich. He could grill hot dogs and burgers well enough that they were never burned, but that was straining the limits of his culinary skills. I would rather he cooked for me for an entire year than have to eat this Cherry Pineapple Bologna even once. If anyone tries this and survives please tell us about your near death experience, that is if you aren’t in therapy over the ordeal.
Cheeseburger Pie
You know my family was a little different while I was growing up. We asked for pies on our birthdays, not cake. You see my Mother was an incredible pie maker. Pecan Pie that won contests, Pumpkin Pies that were star of Thanksgiving meals, Custard Pies, Apple Pies, Peach Pies. You get the idea. So we got birthday pies. She made such an awesome flaky pie crust that you could put pretty much anything in and it would taste good. But one thing she never put in a pie was hamburger. I love her for that. I truly do. I would take a good pie over cake any day of the week, unless it was cheeseburger pie.
Green Bean Bunwiches
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing earlier today. A good old green bean bunwich would hit the spot about now! This honestly looks like some desperate insanity a college kid would come up with when he was broke and hungry. Say it again with me people: GREEN BEAN BUNWICHES!
Do you like Cake and Soda?
Huh, this seems interesting… reminds me of a sweet beer-batter/tempura batter type concoction.
You just know this came about from two possible scenarios:
1: Drunken night where all you could manage to stay awake for was stirring some cake and soda, all the while talking like Julia Child.
2: Spouse asked “honey, what do you feel like eating for dinner?” Reply: “I don’t care, whip up anything.”
P.S… Gingerale should only be Canada Dry. That’s it. The end. Period.
Ladybug Cake
Seriously, if I was as cute as this horrifically adorable ladybug cake is I would have probably gotten laid at least three and a half more times during my college years. The world needs more ladybug cakes. Do your part people!
I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK...
Oh yeah, here is one for all the little lumberjacks out there who deserve a special birthday party! Or what the hell, if you have a bunch of Monty Python loving friends make these and invite everyone over to sing a joyful rendition of the “Lumberjack Song.” I must say, out of all the recipes in this box from the 1970′s this is the only one I can remember my Mom making. And yes, it was for a very early birthday party for me. I helped cut out the little red axes. They didn’t turn out quite as good as the picture. Anyway, I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK...
Bloody Mary Wannabe…
First off… this is a 1974-ish Weight Watchers recipe. After seeing that picture and reading the recipe, I fully understand how people would lose weight. The nausea would prevent them from ever eating again.
What is with the gelatin???? Was there a surplus in the 70s that needed to be consumed before expiration??!!
I find this anything but a refreshing thought.
KFC Biscuits
I remember as a kid heading to the lake for the day with the family. Everyone finding their spot in the car, and getting cozy.
The lake treat was stopping at a KFC to pick up a bucket and all the sides.
Here’s a recipe that brings back some memories…
