The funniest thing Hunter X Hunter ever did was, instead of showing, or even hinting at, who Gon’s mom is, it instead gives his dad toxic yaoi with an evil politician named after Paris Hilton.

really love imagining a bunch a kids and teens on their pokemon journeys staying the night on the couches and floors in the lobbies of pokemon centers, having long talks about their experiences and feelings sharing funny and scary stories and myths about legendaries and trading items and sharing TMs along with sugary snacks and pokedex chargers all while their pokemon are out of their pokeballs and all bundled up in blankets sleeping soundly next to their trainers while they stare up at the stars shining through the glass ceiling over their heads
#this is what pokemon’s all about
#this is…so nice
I just…really like this idea man. So I drew a thing.

do you ever just stop and think about how good hunter x hunter is
what does it mean for children to aspire to adulthood, what does it look like when a child is given the expectations of an adult and told to live up to that regardless of whether they really can or should, how does it affect that child when the aesthetics and the authority of adulthood are repeatedly lauded in their presence and pushed on them without a second thought by their guardians, while the process of development into a healthy, well-rounded person is neglected entirely, so that emotions and impulses like grief and anger and devotion and loyalty and loneliness become these foreign, unknowable, and ultimately corrupting forces that enact themselves on this child who has never been taught where to begin approaching any of them. what if a twelve year old boy was gay
The name they call us by
Okay, another small reflection. I haven't seen anyone mention it, so...
The whole Meruem arc revolves around his identity. He was born to be a king; that's his nature. But after meeting Komugi, something changes. Little by little, eradicating the human species isn't so appealing anymore. His goal, his reason for existing, no longer defines him. So he asks himself, what is my name? What am I, apart from a king?
In the end, Meruem dies alongside Komugi, the person with whom he had formed a real bond and who had opened his eyes. In his final moments, Meruem's last wish is to be called by his name. He is no longer a king. He is no longer an ant. He is simply Meruem. And so he dies satisfied, even though he has not fulfilled his "purpose" (to rule the world).
Well, now let's talk a little bit about Gon. His main goal is to find his father; that is practically his purpose in life (or at least that's how he feels), which is why he is not afraid to put himself in danger in order to continue his search. However, in the CAA, his goal changes; now, he wants revenge. First, he wants to save Kite. Since that's not possible, he now needs revenge.
As with his initial purpose, he is not afraid to risk everything in order to defeat Pitou. And the point I want to make is that if Killua had never saved him with Nanika's powers, Gon would have died right there.
In other words, Gon's last moments would have been after a successful revenge, after fulfilling his goal: to kill Pitou, to avenge Kite. However, Killua arrives in the midst of the chaos and calls his name.
Hearing Killua brings him back to reality for a moment, and as he turns around, his expression is one of regret and sadness. He achieved his goal, but he is not satisfied, and the person he loves most is calling him by a name he no longer responds to. He is no longer Gon. He is no longer even a child. He is simply rage made man.
Had he died, Gon would have had an ending opposite to that of Meruem. Another incredible detail of this parallelism.
This is more interesting if you think about shinjuu, the idea of lovers committing suicide together that Killua had mentioned earlier, which did in fact happen.
Not with Gon and Killua, but with Meruem and Komugi.
Under different circumstances, perhaps if Gon hadn't pushed Killua away and the two of them had faced Pitou together, they might have died in a similar situation to Meruem and Komugi.

Hi yes it’s been a year and I’ve been rewatching hxh and it’s the middle of the night and I may be irrelevant now but I just have to say
Gon was always ready to put his life on the line and sacrifice himself for others
But Killua was the only person to ever put his life on the line and sacrifice himself for Gon
There’s multiple instances of Gon’s self-sacrifice for others, especially in the beginning of the series. But I can’t really think of a time when anyone, besides Killua, did that for Gon. He was the only one.
I think it started in that scene in the York New arc when Nobunaga trapped them and Killua told Gon to run, that he would be the bait so Gon could escape. Then Gon called him dumb for ever suggesting such a thing.
Then in greed island, yk, THAT dodgeball scene.. Gon seemed to accept Killua’s sacrifice for him, and it meant so much to him. Gon even expressed his gratitude to Killua earlier in that arc for joining the game with him, which was also a sacrifice.
And don’t even get me started on the ant and election arc. Really. Y’all know what happens and I won’t be talking about all of Killua’s sacrifices for Gon in them or else this rant would be hours long.
But yeah, just a thought

I catch a glimpse of myself on the television screen on the wall that’s airing my arrival live and feel gratified that I appear almost bored. Peeta Mellark, on the other hand, has obviously been crying and interestingly enough does not seem to be trying to cover it up. I immediately wonder if this will be his strategy in the Games. To appear weak and frightened, to reassure the other tributes that he is no competition at all, and then come out fighting. - "You know what my mother said to me when she came to say good-bye, as if to cheer me up, she says maybe District Twelve will finally have a winner. Then I realized, she didn’t mean me, she meant you!” bursts out Peeta. “Oh, she meant you,” I say with a wave of dismissal. “She said, ‘She’s a survivor, that one.’ She is,” says Peeta.
