someone explain the juxtaposition of a mother hating that her son embodies many of her husband’s worst traits and the son failed to evolve beyond the father while simultaneously hating her daughters for surpassing her in any way - their evolution being seen as a direct threat to her worth

i think my heart was made for slow things. tea that takes time. stories that don’t rush. people who don’t ask "why are you so quiet?" as if quiet is a flaw.
i think the western world has made us so caught up on having a purpose and finding it for our whole entire lives. some indigenous cultures believe we’re alive and here just as trees and animals are: to be here and to beautiful and strange, to simply just be. we don’t need to achieve anything to be valid in our humanness.
