I'm making a new map for my world, so here's my process! This is for Al Nihunaq, the desert kingdom in my webcomic NIROH First, I had a few key points for this region: -An archipelago to the east -A peninsula to the north -The actual kingdom is somewhere near the center I decided to go old school with this and use my sketchbook. A lot of worldbuilders tend to spill beans or rice randomly on paper and trace over that, but I decided to use some valentines candy instead (because I ran out of rice XD). So I spilled it over and over till the general shape felt good enough. I placed kisses in a certain pattern to symbolize mountains. and then I moved a couple things till I got this. Next I traced around everything with a pencil and got the general outline of the map!
I'm going to use these as a reference for when I transfer to digital. The candy will help with the sites (the mountains, hills, lakes, etc). And we'll take it all from there
PART 2! I had to do some editing (of course) for this to work with another map, I had to extend the eastern section into an archipelago and make the main landmass bigger and move it more south. Since I want this place to be THE desert place, there's a large mountain range in the west/north-west. Because of it's location on the world map being near the equator and the big mountain range, it creates a rain shadow, making this pretty arid! I also added a smaller mountain range that kinda stretches to some of the islands to the east, but not fully connecting to the ones in the north. I know I said I was gonna use the candy from the last pics, but it was creating a problem that just wasn't going to work. So whatever XD
Things I'll work on soon: -cleaner linework -elevation levels -rivers and lakes
