Usually, I’m the person that not only points out the elephant in the room, but says, “I’m certain the elephant doesn’t want to wear a tutu.” But not this entry. This entry is all about denial. We aren’t going to plunge into the maw my mama worry about G-Love needing ortho work that hits every craniofacial nerve I’ve got. Rather we are going to look at these gorgeous letterpress printed postcards.…

Lovely REBeLS, my friend in Glasgow, WMcL taught me the phrase “wobbly.” I like it better than its American equivalent of “emotional.” Emotional to me means

I’d like to write that his performance was perfect. That he didn’t play a single false note. That he knew many pieces flawlessly. Honestly, I think he only knew 2 of the seven pieces completely. He schooled us on techniques and difficulties. Most fascinating for me, he remembered not by doing but by hearing. He listened to the notes in his head and searched for them on the cello.
I’ve never asked…

PS, for some thirty plus birthday of mine, found me in our West Seattle home sobbing and our walls torn to the studs. She bore flowers from the gal pal gang, and, upon realizing that I was more of a mess than assumed, told me she would get my hair all fixed too.
It is hard for me to lay my heart down in one more spot. With one as open as mine usually is this comes as a surprise to everyone except…

How have my last few weeks been? Let’s just say I am abstaining from responsibility and writing in my journal and snuggling my loved ones. Otherwise, I won’t respond unless there is major emotional or physical injury. It’s me, not you. For realz.

I cannot muzzle my children to keep them from biting others at the park. I cannot kennel them whilst I go off for a lunch with the ladies. At the end of a long day, I do not want my children curled at my feet by the fire. No. At the end of a long day, I want my children fed, scrubbed and snoozing in their beds far from me. For these reasons and a few more, I do not believe anyone loves their…

Enough. When I use the word enough it is to imply completion. An ending. No need. Enough chocolate. Enough bickering. Enough money. D.W. Winnicott’s theory on the Good Enough Mother has recently spawned lots of talkative offspring. There’s Good Enough Parent by Bruno Bettleheim and Good Enough Parenting by John and Karen Louis. There is a Good Enough Mother blog and a Good Enough Mom blog and…

another trip
Hello Fellow Star Travelers! I practiced improv for a good long while before I had all these surgeries on my facebones. I don’t look funny but I feel funny. For a good long while I felt too funny to be funny on stage. Anyway, I wrote this sentiment, “here’s to another trip around our sun with you” on my Facebook birthday posts for a good long while. Mostly based on the improv premise of “Yes,…

I’ve had the utmost joy taking on custom letterpress printing work recently. My clients are always apologetic for the back and forth that is inevitably a part of custom design and printing. To confess, I had my reservations about taking the custom work on for this very reason. But I’m surprised to find that I love the back and forth. The details. The getting a piece as close to wonderful as we…

REBELTOeS is CHANGING
Hiya. I print on a 1913 Chandler Price letterpress printer that my husband found in a Portland garage last Christmas. We refurbished it with a lot of help from those pockets of artists and craftsmen that you only find when you are into something deep. REBELTOeS used to have loads of posts with musings of mine. Those just might come back in print form. But, until I decide what to do and find the…

when to mulch your yard, gardening tip for the petrified
when to mulch your yard, gardening tip for the petrified
Because I’m afraid I will die tomorrow during a surgery that will remove titanium plates and pins from my facebones, I insisted on a delivery of a pile of mulch. 2 units. This means the broken bark pile was as tall as me and as large as my driveway where it rested.
I started to spread mulch everywhere but on the third day I threw my back out. So I organized the kids’ homework and art supplies.…

hide
When he was 6 he started a research treatment for his milk anaphylaxis. I would take him once a week early in the morning. Each time, he would hide in the ficus while waiting for his name to be called. My 8 month pregnant body was too large to crouch there with him, but, oh how I wanted to be there with him.
Yesterday was our annual appointment that I had rescheduled 4 times. Essentially I hid in…
