ok but how the fuck did orin have synthesia when the awoken are a completely different species??? like, i’m ninety percent sure that the traveler causes a change in awoken guardians to make them intrinsically more human because of what the light does which maybe why mara refers to guardians as things. they’re not living, they’re not dead, they’re not human or awoken or exo. they’re just... things beyond her scope of reality. unpredictable variables, their future can’t be seen.

☼ - His dealings with the Nine…haven’t exactly gone as planned, most of the time. The Nine are an enigma, and he’s still honestly not sure what they are. They say little and reveal even less. But they are a part of this system too (at least, he thinks so). They should have an interest in preserving it.
The Speaker frowns, white brows furrowing. “They see me as unworthy, do they? May I ask why?” He levels his gaze with the Emissary’s, hazel eyes looking into her glowing ones.
The Emissary is anther enigma. She looks familiar, but he can’t put a finger on it. Was she a Guardian, at one point? There are so many of them, he can’t recognize and remember every name, every face.
❛ the light binds and in turn blinds. ❜ he will choke on divinity, they would make sure of it. they wouldn’t let him see for his eyes were never meant to gaze into the nothing where dark and light had both spawned. the knowledge would eat him alive, he would die, but they would be quick to find use for him. the emissary could disappear in an instant, but she lingers for she is a bit too curious for her own good. certainly she knows what is coming to pass, but does he? does the traveler even speak in words he understands? the nine went mad trying to speak, she went mad trying to listen. ❛ you think your worthy because a ball in the sky chose you. do you truly long to receive judgement, speaker? ❜

The Nine could choke on the whole universe, for all he cared at this point. He was upset. About her deal, about what she was doing. Always moving against him, always pleasing her masters who turned her into…whatever she was now. Emissary? Puppet? Tool? Didn’t mattered. Drifter couldn’t help but to remember everything before Orin became this empty shell. The tales she would sing with bright eyes about all she had discovered from her object of infatuation. How easy it had been for her to accept his company, to cling on him whenever she needed to be pulled from the vortex her investigation kept pulling her towards. All of that, gone. Gone with the rest of his names and identities.
Almost, his fault.
“I’m here to talk to you. I know what you’re doing to my crew, Orin. I know what you’re trying to do”.
divinity burned white hot and ice cold at the same time, she had more agency but also more sight and with that came the peril of making her heart as frozen as the plane she existed on. orin still felt, felt deeper than most even now. even as mara and awoken saw her as a broken thing, a lost sheep amidst the darkness. even as drifter saw her as a monster. she felt deeply. she ached in a way she could never express, she only hoped namqi would forgive her for defying the light and everything they held dear. he thinks her to be empty, to be little more than a carcass made sentient by them. he’s not wrong, not entirely but just as she is corpse so is he. a corpse bound to the light whether he likes it or not, she merely broke those chains to be shackled to the cold gray of the inbetween. ❛ then tell me, drifter because all i’ve done is help you. ❜ there’s this venom to her tone, as if she’s been jilted, ❛ your crew wants power, and for that power they must go through judgment just as you did. the nine will only take the worthy. ❜
the nine: we don’t understand. orin: of course you don’t.
the emissary doesn’t sleep for neither does the dark nor light, she has no need of it. however she does meditate, she brings memories of her past and sinks into them. relives them, some are painful and some are the opposite. almost suspended in the air, she dreams, she remembers all and in that memory lies the deceiver. wu ming, dredgen hope, the drifter. the fire she’d sought in a cold ice planet, ironic that now she had the gift of seeking him out once more. the playback of memories stops dead in it’s tracks as movement beyond the taint of the taken is felt in this realm. ❛ drifter, ❜ she greets, not moving from her spot. ❛ the nine do not wish to speak. ❜ yet ———— they will, they always do. // @driiftcr.
these guardians are bold. the kind of bold that leads to death, but that’s their talent to die and die and die again and rise like the sun. it’s blinding. ( it’s beautiful. ) she doesn’t move when a presence is detected, because the emissary knew he was coming, the nine had warned her and she? she couldn’t help but find herself amused by this one in particular. ❛ the taken are waiting, don’t dawdle. ❜ // @blitzherz.
saint fourteen, fourteen resets, fourteen iterations —— it could be argued that he’s on his fifteenth: it’s in a guardian’s nature to forget their old life. a reset. a rebirth. orin has only had a few and already she’s exhausted by the process. she can taste his weariness, shades of deep blue found in the seas of titan. ❛ you crave that which you will never find, ❜ she’s there but all the same she hasn’t chosen to reveal herself, ❛ why suffer fruitlessly? if he wanted you to find him, you would have by now. ❜ // @saintxiv.

they knew each other once but at that time the emissary wasn’t the emissary. weak, fumbling, the title of guardian felt heavy on her tongue. her eyes move an eight of an inch, taking in who’d dare appear before her alone. ❛ quinn, do you truly think you’re worthy ? ❜ // @synthmama.
a wild starter call appears.
the first step to being found is first being lost, and orin had been lost for quite some time. even moreso as she’d lost namqi, his final words burned into her mind as she had been ready to fade into the darkness. that was when she met him, wu ming, a light in the darkness and for a season; hope. even now amidst finding out more than she ever wanted to, plagued by visions of abstract symbols and words she didn’t quite understand she sought him out. the only tether she had back to reality. she felt herself unravel, just as the nine unraveled in their attempts to speak to her. a voice coaxes her out of a cold more biting than the void, her eyes flutter open as movement begins to stir. she can barely keep focused as glowing eyes land on him. in this long abandoned space station, a familiar face is a relief. ❛ you’re late. ❜ oh, oh she’s trying to joke. // @driiftcr:

forget? wu ming, dredgen, drifter, you insult her, yet the emissary’s face is impossible to read; her one greatest consistency. the quiet that falls over the area at the question that hangs in air is noticeable, it’s almost violent. he wanted a taste of what wretched divinity felt like, he used it for stories, deception is an art of the awoken but she hadn’t hardened her heart yet to the trick of her own people. perhaps that is part of why they deemed her unworthy, even in this unlife it was apparent that still her heart wasn’t completely hardened. not as it should be, for she still at her core believed the worlds —— all of them could be saved. ❛ you lied to me. ❜ wretched thing, guardians were monsters and she knew it. she felt it when she was one, a gnawing at the back of her mind beyond the nines’ clamoring. orin longs for him to tether her to reality once more, but that is a dangerous game. while the nine are preoccupied by one of xur’s charges, she’ll take this time to speak candidly for the chance will strike rarely in the not so far future. she longs to be tethered to something tangible, someone real. her gaze, distant and cloudy is on him - fixated. she tastes battery acid and blood, his colors maybe green but his aura is a deep gray-green. the light is there, but duller than it was when she knew him. ❛ and the nine do not enjoy distractions. ❜
