Today I realized a different way to understand the question of free will versus predetermination. And while the broader Theological underpinnings of the way we wrestle and endlessly debate this age old question are integral, still this dialectic feels more real to me in its existential form, in the way that this plays out psychologically. I believe G-d might have set up the outlines of the broader tension simply to show us what that looks like: a hands on lesson from on high demonstrating how to proactively establish these opposing modalities in our individual lifestyles. The debate over how much, or in what capacity G-d exercises control over existence, seems to be merely a way to segue Into a more fundamental conversation, one that explores the ways in which WE choose to exercise control over our own existence - and the ways in which we surrender to the Neshama, the soul of g-d within each of us.
