Meet the Beheld, a special type of parasitic beholder. It's host gets implanted with a young beholder which consumes and controls the host from within upon reaching maturity.
The older The Beheld becomes the harder it is for it to blend in with its host's species as the body becomes engorged and the eyes start to break through the skin.
smol little angsty ness
As vain as they can be, sometimes a beholder dreams of a life not spent in their lair. A life where they don’t have to be fearful of everything, and from those dreams come the Beheld! A race of beholderkin which travel the world in ways their creator could not.
I got a little bit inspired by the Spelljammer trailer that came out recently and made this in like two hours. Also this race uses the new rules introduced for races. Hope you enjoy!

WHAT YOU HOLD, MAY YOU ALWAYS HOLD
Here’s another short poem by Clare of Assisi. She wrote this poem in a letter to Saint Agnes of Prague, whom she encouraged into ever deeper states of union with the Divine. From the letter, one can deduce that what is "held" (see the first line) is the awareness of the God abiding within. The “do” in the second verse refers Agnes's "many virtues".
What you hold, may you always hold. What you do, may you do and never abandon. But with swift pace, light step, unswerving feet, so that even your steps stir no dust, go forward securely, joyfully, and swiftly, on the path of prudent happiness, believing nothing agreeing with nothing which would dissuade you from this resolution or which would place a stumbling block for you on the way, so that you may offer your vows to the Most High in the pursuit of that perfection to which the Spirit of the Lord has called you.

What are the exercises and practices that you can engage, what are the things that you can do, to remember how you’re constantly beheld by the Beloved?

All I want is a man who will stay up with me throughout the night, talking of books we have read. That is what I want. Someone who understands the loneliness I have felt, someone who, like me, has thought of books as his only friends.
