Let me tell you about this girl. This girl is so broken. She's grieving so much. Her family is dealing with a slew of health issues. Her grandmother has been gone for 6 months and it kills her because she wanted her grandma to be at her wedding more than anything. Her mental health is not in a good place. She's stressed beyond belief, but won't surrender it. She spends as many weekends at home as possible because her school environment is that bad for her mentally. She feels alone, insecure, unworthy, worried. She feels like she can't find God, but she knows deep down that He is still good and He will make all things work out. She still goes to church but struggles. Worship songs about His goodness and faithfulness hit her deeply and make her cry because she feels so far from it all. But she's tired. She's been feeling all of this since October and it won't go away. She won't let go of what's consuming her. · Then she went to church on Easter weekend. · And she was freed. She was reminded that Jesus died for all of her current struggles. He died so she didn't have to be held captive by it. She doesn't have to work through it alone and she doesn't have to hold onto it. She felt God whisper to her "I've got you. I'm here." and she broke down. She surrendered everything that's been holding her down the last six months. And now, she truly feels free and is in complete awe and amazement at how everything was lifted off of her in a moment. · You guys, God is so, so good. He takes care of his flock, even when we don't realize it or feel it. He loves us and wants us to surrender to Him so He can work fully in our lives. If you're in a dark place right now, just know that you are loved. So, so loved. Cling on to that, because that will get you through everything. Love from those close to me and from God got me through this dark period on my life, and it can get you through it too. · Come to the cross broken. He will make you whole. Can't help but smile when God reminds me of His amazing grace when I look back on the last six months. They have honestly been some of the most mentally and emotionally challenging and draining months that I have experienced in a long time. But, Jesus carries me through it all. He has never failed me yet. All of the burdens I have felt, he has taken care of and they are gone. He said it himself when he died and uttered the word "tetelestai." It is finished. Paid in full. I am covered by his blood. And let me tell ya, there is nothing sweeter than knowing I'm taken care of. The Shepherd cares deeply for his flock, and for that I am beyond thankful. Wowza - it’s been far too long. My apologies, friends. Life has been BEYOND crazy.
I’m coming up on the end of my student teaching (which has been amazing, but insanely busy), I’ve been working a part-time job (which makes some of my days almost 12 hour days), I had to complete research for my master’s degree, (which, hallelujah, all I have to do now is present next week), we’re working on planning our wedding (227 days to go!), and my grandmother passed away a month ago.
I tell you what, though, if these last six weeks of absolute insanity have shown me anything about Jesus, it’s that, despite the common saying, God DOES give us more than we can handle. Here’s why I believe that to be true.
If God never gave us more than we could handle, why would we need God?
God gives us more than we are able to handle for one reason and one reason only: so we can rely on Him. We need this so that we can have the “aha” moment of how impossible it is to go through life without our wonderful Savior. Without these moments, we would never grow, never learn, and never become more like Jesus. We would only be more stuck in our sinful world.
We need to be given more than we can handle so we can depend on Jesus to carry us through. He is God of the hills and the valleys. Sometimes, we need to go through some crazy valleys to be reminded of that.
He is still God and He is still good. Everything you may be going through is part of His perfect plan for your life. You may not see how at the moment, but when you look back you will see God’s hand in it all.
Praying. It's never something I've considered myself to be "good" at. I try to make sure I'm in conversation with Jesus most days. Some days it's just a few words, while other days it's an hour long conversation. What I have found to be most helpful, though, is my prayer journal. This is the place where I write down my prayers, word for word. Here is where I praise Him, where I cry out to Him in confusion and anger, where I'm filled with so much joy my handwriting is illegible, where tears stain the pages because of pain. Here is where I can go back and see how God has been faithful to me through and through. It is the biggest blessing. God ALWAYS shows up. When you battle depression and anxiety. When you're in a big fight with someone you love. When you're being hurt and don't understand why. When you feel consumed by your sin and the weight of your choices. When you feel as though everything is going against you. When you feel lost. When you feel like giving up. When everything is going wrong. When everything is going right. God is always, always with you. It might not always feel like it, but He is with you and He is carrying you through whatever you are going through. He will never leave you or give up on you. He loves you too much to even consider leaving you behind. He will leave the 99 to find the 1 who is lost. He is always with you. Often, our identity unintentionally gets placed in in worldly things. Like for me, it's the following: I am a teacher, a friend, a fiancé, a Jesus freak, a student, a sister, and so on. I know something that I forget, and maybe you do too, is that who I am should be based more on how God sees me instead of how the world sees me. My identity in God is as follows: I am loved, known, free, wanted, a daughter, holy, worthy, unique, and so much more. When we place our identity in God, our foundation cannot be shaken because everything is based on who and how great He is, and He does not change. When we place our identity in the world, something's bound to crack and crumble and then suddenly we're at a loss because we feel as though we don't know who we are anymore. I pray you will work on placing your identity in Christ alone with me instead of the world. I’ve come to the realization that often God will bring me to my knees when I’m a little too caught up in myself. Life will be going pretty well, then I’ll start to get super overwhelmed and stressed out and annoyed with everything happening, then I break and find myself bawling because life has gotten too hard to handle. And that’s when I realize it: I may be trusting myself too much and not leaning on Jesus like I should.
I am exhausted. I am overwhelmed. I am stressed. I am just flat out tired. · But, despite it all, I choose to still have joy. I choose to smile and push through because I know God is good and He always provides. · God is working in the midst of my craziness. He is teaching me and molding me into a better Christian, future wife, teacher, friend, and woman. So, because of all of that, I choose joy. And I pray you do, too. · "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the Holy Spirit." If you've ever struggled with self-worth, confidence, or feeling as though you matter, I pray you read Psalm 139. This Psalm nearly brought me to tears and left me completely speechless after I read it. God knows our hearts and our minds and our actions. He's known everything about us since way before we were even a THOUGHT to our parents. God knows us even better than we know ourselves. He knows our past, present, and future. He created you for a reason. You are here for a reason. You are loved. You are known. You are cared for. I found myself feeling pure joy when I looked at myself in the mirror at the gym today. I felt comfortable and confident when I saw myself. But, more than anything, I felt God. I felt him telling me how loved I am, even though I have a hard time fully loving myself. I felt him tell me I'm beautiful, even though I was sweaty, tired, and gross-looking. When I was in high school, I struggled with feeling loved and wanted. My relationship with my father was in a bad place, my relationship with my sister left me feeling unwanted in my own family, and I kept trying to feel the love I was laking in my family from guys around me. I tried and tried to prusue them, but they didn't pursue me back in the same way. Eventually, I realized what I was doing wrong and started focusing more on God's love for me. I felt accepted and cherished and deeply cared for. Since then, I thought I'd known all I really need to about God's love. I was wrong. God has been so graciously breaking down the walls around my heart and showing me the vastness of his love not only for me but for all of mankind. His love runs deeper than the oceans. —————————————————————— We're never done learning about God. We may think we've got part of him all figured out and then he recks us and shows us how truly great he is and how we can never stop learning about him. There is so much about him that we may never know, even if we spend our whole life studying. It's so wonderful that we have a God that is willing to teach us about him and about ourselves constantly throughout our lives. He loves you so much that he's willing to patiently teach you through the life. Through the ups and the downs, he's teaching you about yourself and, more importantly, about him.
