The funny thing about the professor Layton franchise is how less convincing the reasons why there are puzzles and riddles fucking everywhere get as the franchise get bigger. Like in the first game, the dead guy is actually trying to test you, and your intelligence, by making the robot villagers ask you weird shit all the time, to know if you are worthy of taking care of Flora. Why he thinks that your ability to solve a wooden puzzle or a riddle about cutting a cake into parts makes you able to take care of a child is still a mystery, but it does explain shit. And people asking you to solve puzzles all the fricking time is one of the reasons the village is named « the curious village » in the first place. 

In the later games however, no such thing. Like sure, maybe Layton & the crew were actually hallucinating people asking them riddles in Pandora Box because they were expecting that from a weird ass city like this based on their adventure in the curious village? And maybe Clive asked everyone that he hired in Fake Ass Future London to slow Layton down with riddles? And I guess Mistharelly and Monte d’Or are just like. Weird ass places? But you really cannot convince me that every place around the world with an Azran artefact suddenly developp a whole culture of solving riddles. And Mystery Room and that fuckass Katrielle game straight up take place in London. Like at some point they just accepted this universe’s gradual descent into puzzles madness and gave up all kind of rational explanations

I'm pretty sure that like. It's kinda confirmed in PL Vs. Phoenix Wright that Layton and Luke are just fucking insane and love solving unneeded puzzles.
