I don’t know how appropriate it is to come to tumblr to ask for advice with this type of thing, but I’m desperate.
My fiancé has BPD, and I try to be understanding of what he’s going through but he’s always a different person (one day he’s in love with me, the next day I’ve ruined his entire life and he hates me)
The emotional abuse is really taking a toll on me. But now the physical abuse is becoming more frequent and more painful.
I battle with depression, and to him, it’s not fair when I get sad because he has it “way worse” so I “need to get over it and grow up.”
I guess he got extremely annoyed with me today, and he snatched a pillow from under my head and whipped me in the face. And when I started crying, he got more violent. He grabbed my bad wrist (It’s sprained from work) and twisted it. And then he kicked me several times.
I’m not sure he even remembers doing it. He apologized a few minutes after it all happened, and he started crying and saying he should kill himself.
I guess I’m just trying to get some insight on what I should do. If there are any people who have BPD, could you explain what’s potentially going through his mind? Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?
I’m so scared that I’m in an abusive relationship with someone who genuinely doesn’t understand what he’s doing. I ask him what’s going on in his mind, but he never wants to talk about it.
Any advice or words would be helpful!
BPD is no joke...and the treatment isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Even when they seem to get it right...it doesn’t take long before the meds are all off again. And the physical abuse is NOT a BPD thing. That’s going to continue...and get worse. You need to get out of this thing at the earliest opportunity. Don’t let him blame physical abuse on the BPD. Theey are for SURE unrelated. Abusers abuse and it never...NEVER gets better. They are 100% repeat offenders...BPD has it’s highs and lows...but abuse is another thing entirely.
