MASSIVE PROTESTS IN NEW HONG KONG @ XIAN GAN PRIME
President Kuek, our people are getting restless! The curfew imposed by the Galactic Union didn’t go down well with them…they’re taking it to the streets! (Sigh) Chee Bai! Vice President Chua, I hate to say it but this thing wouldn’t have happened if that Taiko Stanley Chan didn’t leave the colony! What was he smoking? Trying to find a mole in the Alliance when he’s…cheh! (Sigh) Miss Alicia is the monitor on? Em no…! Then turn it on! Y-yes, Mr President sir!
“As of right now, there has been reports of people engaging directly with the City Sentinels, starting from Tai Ping Avenue, New Temple Street and all the way towards the Administration Center at Victoria Promenade! They demand that President Kuek Mun Long stop capitulating to the Galactic Union and also that he’d reconsider issuing the declaration of–” Special Statute 131C/46B - Formal Insistence On Independent Administration In Times Of Galactic Emergency…
Chee Bai! Don’t they know the Non-Aligned Systems would temporarily lose their independence when the galaxy is in chaos and…! (Sigh) Since we’re indebted to them, to declare our right to use that statute now would make us an accomplice to the Chairman’s killer? But sir please–What, they want hordes of alien military police to overwhelm us is it? After what that Chairman did–sidelined us in everything, annulled a lot of galactic MOUs–made us a joke?
No, Vice President Chua! Let the people riot, let Xian Gan Prime falls apart, I don’t care! I’ve worked hard to ensure our colony retains its freedom Eugene, even after that damned Ah Pek (ex-President) Kwok broke us away from the Alliance! Mr President have you gone insane? Why–And don’t you forget we both made a fortune all these while because of Stanley and his dealings! So where the hell is he? Goddamn it! Good God the President’s really lost it…!

Nietzsche said that mankind killed god, and that in doing so, we became gods. A lot of people understand this to mean that we have achieved dominion over the Earth; over our own destiny. I disagree. I think God died willingly, that we were allowed to make the kill. God was tired of the burden, of the responsibility of holding the chaos at bay. When we killed God, we performed a mercy, but we also assumed the mantle of responsibility. A mantle that we are failing to maintain. One that we as a species haven't yet realized that we've taken on.
It's like a teenager who moves out of their parent's home. We believe that we're taking control of our lives, that we're gaining freedom. In reality all that's happened is that we've gotten rid of the barrier between us and responsibility. By believing that we are freeing ourselves, we've enslaved ourselves in a way we couldn't imagine. We no longer have anyone to blame our problems on, no one to bail us out when we make a mistake. We have put the chains on ourselves and proclaimed our independence.
