Bearded Vulture landing (by Korkeasaaren eläintarha)
“What do you mean this is not a Pokemon?”
Lammergeier / Bearded Vulture

I am pretty sure these birds missed the memo that they’re no longer considered dinosaurs.

Bearded Vulture
His outstretched hand wavered as they lowered their body to a hunch and their wings (which seemed to burn–not physically, of course– his gaze from it’s bright..redness) had slightly become spread out; transforming them into quite a terrifying crimson beast.
The marksman found himself holding his breath when a hiss came from them, and the hand that hovered above one pistol, had actually grasped the butt of the weapon, but still didn’t withdraw it out in the open. As he slowly exhaled, he realised that they weren’t looking directly at him.
Vil glanced down at the pistol he had grasped, and back at the other’s locked-on gaze.
He assumed that I was actually going to?–Like I would ever do such a thing…to my own crew-member.
All the fear and feeling of hostility seemed to have vanished for a moment, as he removed his grip on the butt and extended that hand too, palm empty and weapon-free.
Wings spread out just a tad more once Vil's hand actually touched the pistol. Lammy was nearly about to jump on the marksman when suddenly his hand lifted off of the weapon and joined the other. It took a moment for Lammy to calm down. But, bit by bit, his feathers settled and he rose from his crouch to approach Vil. Empty hands did not worry him - although he still eyed the pistol cautiously as he drew closer.
Curiously enough, the fiery beast seemed to have forgotten the previous act of getting a knee to the face. Or maybe he didn't care about that after Vil showed he wouldn't draw a gun on him. There was mention of it being an accident, after all. Lammy reached out to one of Vil's hands - still held out in the air - and opened his beak to bite his hand. It was gentle, though, as if he was checking to see if Vil would react to the action. And then he let go and pushed his face between Vils hands and right under his arm to where the pistol was holstered (what was personal space? he had no concept of it). Lammy's beak clacked against the butt of the pistol as he checked it. His feathers rose a bit in concern before he backed off and settled down in front of him.
All the anger from the creature seemed to have just...vanished. Lammy peered at Vil, head cocking sideways, and a gentle "kweee" sound whistled from him. It was, admittedly, a very non-threatening sound for such a large form. It was also a sign that the man who turned into this bird probably wasn't very threatening at all unless you gave him a reason to be.
He had nearly forgotten that he was biting down on his lip, and luckily didn’t draw blood when the abrupt turn and standing up of the other momentarily shocked him. But then they shifted into a fiery bird, which successfully made him leave teeth marks on the flesh of his bottom lip as he gaped at them.
On the marksman’s part, he was starting to get irritated. The reactions he was giving them didn’t feel…right? Probably because he’s making an undignified display of himself, or so he thinks.
That didn’t really matter right now though, since the towering bird–feathery dragon?– inched closer towards him, their feathery neck raised and crimson gaze piercing into his own.
Instinctively, Vil hovered his hand on one of his pistols that almost always remained by his hip. But he did not draw, even when the other extended their neck and pushed him. However, he did stagger back against the mainmast, face stern but hand still frozen above the pistol. Another push made him thump against it.
[∨] ❝ That’s enough! I apologised already, have I not? ❞ Vildarks told them sharply as he splayed his other hand at them, signalling for them to stop.
The bird was ready to push him again, except an outstretched hand from the other telling him to stop caused him to pause his actions. Lammy clicked his beak, feathers settling slightly as he stared at Vil's outstretched hand...and then his eyes landed on the other which hovered above the pistol. Oops. Wrong move, marksman. The issue with Lammy was that he wasn't completely there in the mind at least 90% of the time. The lab he escaped from had conditioned him to be more animal-minded than human; reaching for a weapon when dealing with an angered Lammy was the exact opposite of what anyone would want. That's exactly what those scientists had done to make him the way that he was. Feathers hackled again, Lammy lowered into a hunch with his wings stretched out slightly. A low, long hiss escaped him and his eyes remained locked on the pistol. What Lammy was originally trying to do was just push Vil over. This was a threat display.
A sudden jolt of pain slithered up to his thigh from his knee as he reeled back onto the mainmast–only catching a glimpse of the other as they fell onto their back. The sensation quickly ebbed away but it left a little tingle.
[∨] ❝ Oh damn! M-my bad. ❞ The marksman stuttered, rubbing his kneecap before he extended his free hand to him.
But they had already pushed themselves off the timber boards and had sat hunched with their back turned to him. His hand withdrew back to his side, but his left came up to his hide behind the nape of his neck.
❝ Accidents happen, I give you my word that it wasn’t on purpose… ❞ His tone sounded annoyingly tiny to him. Petty, almost.
His little speech trailed off as his gaze fully took in the appearance of their back. Human they are, but the colour of their back said otherwise.
Black as sin…but those pinkish streaks don’t look like they originally were there before…
The turn of their head reverted his attention to the small stream of crimson trailing down their nose. But the glare made him bite his lip.
Vil's quiet words and apology go, for the most part, unheard by the zoan-type as Lammy turns completely to face him and pushes himself up off of the floor. And then he takes on his animal form. Usually, a bird wouldn't seem too threatening. But usually, birds weren't six feet tall creatures who looked like animals from hell themselves. This particular bird looked slightly reminiscent of a dragon, even, in some odd way. His feathers hackled and he hissed at Vil, stepping closer, all the while locking his red eyes on him.
Lammy hunched and stretched his neck, pushing Vil - hard - trying to knock him over. A very small flag went off in his mind. Captain keeps him safe, Captain likes this man. He knew he couldn't kill Vil...but it wouldn't keep Lammy from getting the marksman back for kneeing him in the face. Lammy gave him another shove.
((small collection of lammies though because I haven't actually put any art of him on his blog it's all just scattered on Z's blog lol. In short, captain satan has a demon-bird-lookout you don't really want to mess with him he'll prob eat your bones or some shit. Also human doodles because it’s rare to see him like that. wickedbrows.png also a wild!Rin who belongs to allseeing-captain))
It felt very wrong for him to spectate the other’s gradual transformation, so he tried turning his head slightly to stop from staring. But this action was a waste, since the devil fruit eater had crouched down in front of him–as his own kind.
Awkwardly, Vil faced him, plain brown irises meeting golden ones. His eyes subtly widened as he watched the whites of the other’s eyes turn pink. This new crew-member of theirs creeped him out, yet he liked him anyway. They haven’t done ill towards him, so that was a good start.
Then they spoke in a whisper that suddenly made goosebumps prickle up the nape of his neck, though the answer wasn’t as sinister as he thought it would be.
[∨] ❝ Your…your spot? ❞ The marksman repeated dumbly.
❝ Ah. Right. ❞ He quickly added, mentally slapping himself for sounding a bit stupid the first time.
Reluctantly, he stood up and groaned at the cramps in his thighs. Instead of moving, he stretched his limbs to wake them up; but as he did so, he accidentally kneed the other’s face as he lifted his knee.
The red-haired man was happy when Vil moved - or at least, he would have been, if he hadn't taken a knee directly to the face.
As far as Lammy knew, while he lay on the ground, staring into the sky above, he was attacked. He rolled over and sat down, clutching his nose for a moment. This left his back exposed to Vil. His back, which wasn't seen by too many others since he didn't like to use his human form often, was completely black as if it were tattoed or marked. But the black was interrupted in places by long pink marks; they were evidence that he had been lashed at some point in his life. They were also evidence that you didn't really want to be a threat to him. He sat hunched a moment longer before he straightened up and removed his hand from his nose to reveal a small drip of blood leaving his nose. Lammy glared over his shoulder at Vil. This couldn't have meant good news.
If there was a devil fruit that could shift dreams into reality, the marksman would yearn for it. Whenever he slept in his the crows nest, dreams laced with goodness would manifest in his unconscious mind. This dream was no different, and it was so unfortunate that it had ended quite quickly.
A simple nudge on his head had made his dream fade away and awaken him back to reality. Still half-asleep, Vildarks thought it was Salvador that woke him up. He’s gone, have you forgotten that? A soft voice echoed, and his heart suddenly ached.
Shaking his head furiously to get rid of the voice and his weariness, the marksman wasn’t expecting a huge, towering, bird-like humanoid to be perching on the railing and gazing at him.
Vildarks gaped back at them, before gently slapping their beak.
[∨] ❝ I thought I was still in a nightmare for a second. ❞ He chuckled. But he didn’t budge from his spot.
A small hiss escapes from him at the gentle slap on his beak, and his eyes turn red as he watches Vil. Vil, still not budging from his spot. It wasn't much more than mild irritation, really, although the small slap to his beak he didn't take too fondly to and he could really care less that the man seemed to have been having a dream.
Lammy shifted to his human form - something he did very rarely, and he moved from his crouch on the railing to the floor of the crows nest; the metal cords attached to his pants clinked slightly as he stopped in front of Vil and crouched before the marksman.
A grin creeped across his face, growing wider as his pupils pinpointed in golden irises. His sclera flushed pink though. It was a side-effect of eating his devil fruit, even as a human his sclera would flush upon excitement or anger and the bloodshot appearance of them betrayed his irritation.
"Marksman," Lammy whispered. His head tilted in an odd birdlike manner as he looked down at the spot which they occupied. He returned his gaze to Vil's eyes, still grinning. "This. Is my. Spot."
mood board
allseeing-marksman He hadn't been on the ship for long, no, but it wasn't hard to see that Lammy had claimed the crows nests on the ship as his spot; and YES - he would get fussy if someone were in the nest besides him. He was the ship's lookout, after all. So the 6-foot mass of feathers was understandably a bit ruffled when he found a certain marksman in the crow's nest. Lammy landed from his flight, talons clicking on the edge of the crow's nest as he eyed Vil. The raptor's feathers rose and he clicked his beak as he reached out and nudged Vil with his head. It was an action that said 'move, you're in my spot', more than being an action which called for attention. But hey, who said knowing what a bird wanted was easy?
