Mio was walking home after class finished, it seemed oddly quiet, so many students going nowhere, it was generally a lot louder than this given all the people talking, but it didn’t bother her. She noticed at a fork in the road as she was crossing that a jetstream of light came zooming to the ground, it was fast, too fast run from, and she was sucked into it. Sucked into another world.
The time was night, Mio had awoken, “What.. The hell?” She was confused, couldn’t remember a thing, but she took a moment to look around, she was on the ground, on grass, looking up, trees, lots and lots of trees. She was in a forest, a bamboo forest. “Where- Where am I?” With great pain Mio tried standing up, it hurt, it hurt like hell. She walked, despite the pain, it’s like her legs had been beaten and cut, but her body shown little signs of outward struggle, clearly she’d been attacked. They were heavily smashed and the tendons had been cut.
She continued walking until she could find a large stick or branch to bear the pain, several minutes passed and she felt blood pooling into her shoes, she kept going though, trying to find anyone who could save her. A long time passed before far into the distance she saw a girl in a uniform very similar to hers, she wasn’t going anywhere, and she wasn’t a scarecrow, Mio tried so hard to get closer, it was agonizing but she went on. When she was finally within earshot she was able to say “Help me, please.” The girl turned to her and Mio collapsed on her feet.
Walking along the endless bamboo of the Bamboo Forest, Reisen was out gathering materials for medicine and remedies. She had actually brought a few syringes with her for extra confirmation on what kind of materials to gather for specific remedies. It was proper or a nurse in training to know how to make medicine. Besides that, it was a request from her master.
Her basket was full of several plants, all that would be grounded and mixed with other liquids to create cures for as many things from the common cold to something like extreme fevers and other bacterial diseases and ailments. Pain killers and such would produced as well. As she had plucked the last plant, she was about to head out until she heard a weak voice call out to her followed by a thud.
Turning, she astonished to see a black-haired girl in a what looked like a uniform face down with her white socks showing a crimson color. “W-What…” Her instincts kicked in as she rushed to her, flipping her over and resting her head in her arms. “Damn it she’s out…and her legs muscles are torn…” Biting her lip, she pulled a syringe out of her skirt pocket, taking it she applied the shot to each leg. “The bleeding should stop…I have to get her out of here.” Standing, she had the girl on her back piggyback style as she started towards Eientei to give her proper medical attention
Mio fell into a grassy patch of thorned plants, further cutting into her legs and midsection, as well as a few that would directly pierce the skin. She hit the ground and lost conscious. Her body was in a lot of pain, from the cut and smashed legs, to exerting herself by walking on injured legs, to colliding with the ground and thorns. The pain killer eased much of that pain, and her breathing returned, but she was still out.
She couldn’t feel a thing as the girl carried her, running. In her comatose state she dreamed of being on a boat rocking back and forth across the waves, it was oddly peaceful, yet very jittery. When the rocking stopped the sea was still, and the ship faced with a serpentine dragon, Leviathan. It was beautiful, deadly, yet somehow refined and elegant, it could destroy them all in a moment if it wanted to, but had no reason too. Instead ascending to the heavens, leaving as if it never saw the ship in the first place.
Quite a long time passed and she woke, slowly, in a bed in a room she was unfamiliar with, but before she could react to her surroundings, “The hell was that about?” She pushed that weird dream out of her head when she started looking around. “Where am I..?” She asked as she looked about the room and saw the girl from before mixing and grinding various plants in a bowl.
The girl had been making unusual sounds in her sleep. Reisen however didn’t mind it as sometimes strange dreams tended to be the side effects of the medication she injected her with. As she mixed materials, she heard a voice from the bed. Continuing to grind and mix, she called out to her. “Well, good morning.” She chuckled slightly before setting the bowl aside and walking towards the bedside. “You would be in Eientei, located in midst of the Bamboo Forest of the Lost.”
A straight answer. But judging by her uniform, she didn’t appear to be from Gensokyo. Reisen was dressed similarly but certainly her outfit didn’t look much like the girl’s, which looked like a school uniform. “Your legs were deeply cut and your muscles seem to be torn from heavy exertion. I was able to stop the bleeding but I’m going to need to need to give you some painkillers and then attach braced to your legs.”
Leaning over, she felt her forehead to make sure she didn’t retain a fever. “You don’t seem to have any other sicknesses. However, you will need some days of bed rest and you will have to move on crutches to which I will have for you. Oh and my name is Reisen Udongein Inaba. What would your name be, miss?”
"Yeah that’s a pretty apt name for that place, I was running around in that forest for what felt like hours. In addition to what actually happened to me it would explain why my legs feel more like spaghetti than bone right now." That too was an apt way to put it, though she most likely could barely feel her legs do to the drugs she’s already administered.
She knew she could barely feel her legs, and that they had been cut and felt horrible, but she had no idea of what to expect when she finally found out what had happened. “I- I see…” She did tear up a bit, but she was able to hold herself back from fully crying. She needed to be strong, and was still a little scared from what happened in the first place. “W-Will I be able to walk again after this is over?”
She received her answer shortly and took an immense weight off her back. She hesitated to ask, “I- I don’t suppose you know who did this to me?” Timidly she looked down at the blanket covering her legs. “Are you sure it’s wise to go directly to crutches instead of a wheelchair?” Mio assumed this would include a lot of physical therapy, but not that it would start that soon. “Oh-Um… My name is Mio Akiyama, nice to meet you, Inaba-Sensei(Sensei can mean teacher as well doctor), after the fact.” he smiled a bit frantically.
"Rest assured that your bones are fine. It's mostly your muscles that need the attention. The cuts will leave minor scarring and surprisingly you didn't require stitches. They looked bad but they weren't nearly as bad when I took a closer look." The moon rabbit did her best to offer a smile to the ravenette. "If you feel more pain, tell me and I'll provide you with some painkillers to take orally. I doubt you'd want me to stick you with needles again."
Reisen moved her hands and placed them on Mio's cheeks, Better to be safe than sorry when it came to fevers and sicknesses. "You're a little clammy...but I would be too if I woke up in situation as such. And you will be able to walk again,it will just take some time. Therapy will do good and I'll assess it for you. However, you will need to stay in Eientei for the time being. I'll have to get you acquainted.
Mio was the only patient around that day. They didn't get too many urgent care patients in that often so Reisen never really had to use her full potential in medicine. With Mio, she had the chance to do so. "Oh, how could I let that slip, Of course, you will be in a wheelchair but crutches will be needed eventually.As for who did this...it would seem it wasn't at fault by anybody...at least all I can tell from the wounds. Akiyama-san huh...nice name." The lunar rabbit kept her smile and even blushed slightly at being called sensei. It was a first really.
