Berlin:

White fox flew across the pond to visit Red Fox in Berlin. We choose to work intensively on body puppetry techniques. New characters started to emerge. The work period ended with a small showing/open rehearsal for a select group of art makers and was received extremely well.

Red Fox in Deutschland!

This week Lisi had the great pleasure of working with Alice Gottschalk in her studio in Stuttgart, Germany.  There she learned marionette-building techniques which were entirely new to her but a speciality of Alice!  These included building head and hands out of paper and wood putty, and the construction of an ergonomic German-style controller.  For the character she started with no preconceived idea, letting the personality emerge from the material.  What came out was a badger-like forest creature with a light-up belly.  Once he is painted and clothed he will be ready to join the Red Fox|White Fox menagerie.

Dispatches from the fields of Iowa Part IV:

Red Fox took a giant pile of shavings from some blocks of bass wood this week, and out came the Twins!   The furniture puppet is on its way, lorded over by White Fox, king of Canetown.  White Fox also made the Twins' controllers using the famous Sanko 3000 method- thanks Erik!  (http://eriksanko.com/).  In other news, the midwestern sky repeatedly blew our little East Coast minds.

Dispatches from the fields of Iowa part 3: WHITE FOX

I finally arrived to Grin City after some troubling flights and super delays. Red Fox was kind enough to pick me up from the airport at midnight and drive me, mini van style through the darkness of Iowa. I awoke to another world and immediately was thrown in with a tour of the space, and my studio. Minutes after I finished my tour I was whisked back to Brooklyn. Not Brooklyn, NY but Brooklyn, Iowa was our destination. There the Grin City participants made plans for our pop gallery showing the following week. This was a short stop for the day as a group of 6 of us drove from there to the Grinnell, Iowa Farmers Market for goodies and outreach. Fancy bags for fancy people to carry their fruits and veggies. 

Now Red Fox and I are back in the studio planning/carving twins and reconfiguring chairs and spindles into new creatures. Hopefully by tomorrow controllers will be done and we can get these twins moving. It will be truly exciting. 

A comment on the last two pictures. We are thinking of our next fundraiser, a calendar called Puppetry Pin-Ups?

There are puppet feet!  There is a beautiful brand new band saw!  There are artists lounging in the grass, and grass that leads all the way to my favorite thinking place:  the train tracks.

Dispatches from the fields of Iowa part I

Red Fox: I arrived at beautiful Grin City Collective on Monday!  So far I've been decompressing under the wide open skies, getting to know my fellow artists, and working in the studio on our first set of characters for Musaeum.  Pictured you'll see my designs in progress for the Twins puppets, the interior and exterior of my studio, a bunch of furniture waiting patiently to be made into marionettes, the organic garden, and a sweaty and triumphant crew of residents who've just erected an entryway for the Sac and Fox Tribe's senior center garden.  (Yes! The sign of the Fox follows us!)

WE GOT IN AND WERE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP!!!!!

Red Fox | White Fox is happy to announce we will be attending the O'Neill Puppetry Conference from June 14-June 22nd.

Lisi Stoessel  | Red Fox will be attending the Wunderkammer strand with instructors Alice Therese Gottschalk, Raphael Mürle, & Frank Soehnie with Bradley Kemp

Jordan Morley | White Fox will be attending the Marionette Design & Construction with Jim Rose strand.

There we will both learn new skills and make friendships/network to bring Musaeum to life!
