Redline International Film Festival was founded as a passion project by indie filmmakers. Our goal is to shine a light on the films and filmmakers that the mainstream media frequently overlook. One of the best things about the medium of short films is that it lets the artist create a beautiful, thought provoking film through the most simple of premises. Take ‘Gas Can’ for example. An old farmer is asked to spare some gas for a family stranded by the roadside. Sounds simple enough right? Behind this simple synopsis though, Writer/Director Mattias Graham explores a much deeper issue of racism against indigenous people in the prairie provinces of Canada. . Igor & Katia Priwieziencew’s short film ‘Leader’ is one of those films that sticks with you long after the credits roll. Yes, it’s beautifully written, yes it looks gorgeous, but what really takes this film above and beyond is the performances; namely that of Haniszewski Mirosław who plays a charismatic leader of a therapy group, made up of men seeking help to overcome their oppressive relationship counterparts. With a humorous tone to begin with, the film slowly grows dark as the leader begins to show a cultish-style of running his sessions. With 24 hours having passed since the big night last night, we wanted to reflect back on the big winner of the event, ‘Green Book’ which took home the Oscar for Best Picture. This win was a surprise to many as it was up against some powerhouse films like ‘Roma’ and ‘The Favourite’, however we were incredibly happy to see it win. Such a great, feel-good film that leaves you with a big grin on your face once the credits start to roll. Both Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali delivering phenomenal performances with some great on-screen chemistry, the film takes a very important look at the history of racism in the United States. Definitely a film worth the watch. . 'Blows with the Wind' is one of these films.
