He of all people knew the effects a house could have on a person, especially one with a heart as big as hers. And that is why he was full of fear. He lost Nellie, a piece of his soul he would never get back, but he wasn't about to lose Sam too. No, she had found a home in his heart and his soul, and no house was going to take that away from him. No house was going to take her life from her, rip her from the world she loved and cared for so much. So that's why...    ❛ And if you're going to do this... then I want to help you. ❜

❛ I'm here. I'm here. Look at me, Sammy. ❜    Luke sits beside her, moving to gently cradle her face in his hands. His thumbs brush against her cheeks, and he starts breathing deep, as if he is guiding her through the motions.    ❛ I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. ❜    There had been countless nights where Luke was on the other end of this, and Sam was always there for him. In times like this, Luke always offered up a small piece of himself to her — assisting her with the method that always helped him in his times of distress... and at the very least, it was something for her to focus on while he calmed her down enough to properly help her.    ❛ Let's count. ❛ Yeah, of course, I — thought they'd make you happy. Or somethin'. ❜    He doesn't really know how else to present a jar of pickles to her, but Luke is very pleased with Sam's response. She'd been working hard, and frankly, Luke was a bit worried she wasn't taking the time to treat herself. So, on his grocery trip, he was sure to pick up a little extra something, just for her. For extra measure, he even wrote her name on the jar... even though they were the only two in the apartment.    ❛ Gotta feed that genius mind of yours. Y'know. ❜
