YEAH.... they don’t have anything as, well, ‘explicit’ as that?  no panty shots, nothing is obviously a boobs n butt pose, but all the hips angled in That Spine Breaking Way that’s clearly more for aesthetics than something a human can possibly do, thighs are Thick, waist is Small, a lot of cases there’s visible cleavage even on their version of rapunzel (made her look older, gave her an off-both-shoulders dress, didn’t do her freckles??). korra’s boobs are a lot more apparent than they are in canon.

i recall there was something that happened a few years back when lok came out where they posted a piece of lok fanart of korra, but korra’s skin was lighter than canon. an anon came in telling them this?? that ‘erasing korra’s skin color is bad’ and saki basically said something along the lines of ‘my art my style, don’t like don’t look’ and i just kinda......

i was already feeling a bit iffy because most of their faces were like. stiff model ‘stereotypically pretty’ faces. big eyes, pouty lips. light shine highlights eeeverywhere. everyone has the same overall face shape. most of the male characters have the same overall face shape... and they cater to fanservice a LOT

like, they’re a very accomplished artist?? their art is GOOD, but. practically all of them are staring at the viewer in that kind of ‘designed for The Gaze’ way and it makes me click away really fast. plus that incident with the korra thing from before keeps sticking with me. all their drawings have about the same skin tone aside from like the SU stuff or anything with non-human skin color. enh.

she even took our Scrap Throwaway Thick Paper to cut down and use and i could TELL it was ours, because i tossed it BECAUSE it had jammed in another printer and was covered in toner stains. and she wants to say ‘you can’t charge me extra for thick paper because it’s MY paper’ NO, YOU TOOK OUR PAPER. PAPER THAT ALREADY JAMMED IN THE MACHINE IT WAS MEANT!! OT BE USED IN!!

ANOTHER customer even tried to tell her ‘look, the associate is telling you THAT PAPER is going to jam THIS MACHINE, why are you insisting it won’t?’ and she’s still halkjsdLKFJDG i dont’ CARE that the bypass tray is there for thicker paper, this printer WILL NOT HANDLE PAPER THAT THICK

i failed to mention this is THE SAME customer who used to make COPIES of OUR COUPONS to use repeatedly.

i know this because i glimpsed an entire sheet of them in her bag by accident but just thought i was imagining things. then i actually looked at the coupons she was bringing in and they were a) expired, and b) we hadn’t handed out any coupons with this particular offer for MONTHS at that point.

and when i told her these were expired she said ‘well how am i going to make color copies then? your price for them is too expensive!’ you fudgewhacker i don’t CARE, you cannot just make copies of coupons because you don’t agree with the price.

i admit that shi//vani’s works are Pretty Neat and off-beat and that they avoid Most fandom tropes but

on the other hand their writing also comes off ot me as kind of.. detached? kinda flat. not REALLY flat, but just flat enough that i don’t really feel tsuna’s character coming through. the dialogue is Not Bad (although everyone sounds the same) but it isn’t boring to read (i say, having both? of their longer series. the ones that aren’t HP au’d). the fact that it’s all in tsuna’s pov but doesn’t really feel like tsuna is kinda jarring. or any personality at all. like how RR doesn’t have a lot of personality, but still had A Lot Of Prose padding... none of shi//vani’s fics (or at least the two sky arco tsuna ones) have that prose padding. everything is completely cut and, well, not dry, but to the point, no filler, no lollygagging. scenes begin and end in the snap of a finger and it’s like they literally do not use transition sentences at all. moves fast, but too fast? jarring to read at times.

also giving sky arco tsuna the option to ‘choose’ between either the Adult sky arco form that shortens his lifespan, or the Chibi (*makes face*) sky arco form that lets him live as long as the other arcos.............. feels like a cop-out?? like. just sweeps it under the rug. idk. it feels kinda cheap. i get that if you want to avoid The Angst(tm) that comes with a sky arco not living as long as the rest of the arco, then getting rid of the shortened lifespan is Key, but.

they also use the same flame set-up for both of their sky arco fics and it.. was neat the first time?? with we//lkin. it was kinda novel when i first read that. but then they did about the same thing with the diagonal flame-wise, which. yeah, it’s easier to work with what’s already established (or rather, with headcanons already made, even if it’s for another.. ‘au’). but it also kind of felt like diagonal’s flame setup hinged a lot on having prior knowledge about the author’s portrayal of flames. it didn’t go as in depth as we//lkin did re: the flame training, which is probably because they didn’t feel like writing the same thing over again hahaha. but at the same time, for new readers... that’s kind of detrimental?? just a bit?

the time skipping and jumping also got a lot more jarring and abrupt in diagonal. probably because it was covering a gazillion years instead of, what, 20? that it did in we//lkin.

i’d probably still rec their fics, or at least not shoot down recs of their fics, but. i’m too picky and critical to really laud it all that much.
