this couldn’t be real. ayano was dead. she couldn’t have come back, she was dead, SHE WAS DEAD! and yet, she was right there, unmistakable with her red scarf. as if she’d never left.
tsubomi tried to squeeze the words from her throat, but found it difficult at first. there was so much she wanted to say, so much she wanted to do, to tell her. the urge to yell, cry, dissolve into tears and groans was present, but most of her mind just focused on the words.
where have you been? why did you do that? why did you leave us behind? you left me to take your place, and i know i failed that much. and yet, i’m here.
and yet she knew she couldn’t say all that. to do so would be cruel, especially if she wasn’t ready yet.
instead, tsubomi took a breath, before calling out. “a-ayano!”
There was a million words, thoughts, feelings she wished she could’ve given before she left. Lingering in her heart for ages alone, they withered like roses. The people she left behind-- her family, her friends-- what did they think of her?
Placed in this city, she could only continue to fester in her regrets. She had willingly given everything up, and yet... Here she was, given another chance. Amongst people who had never heard of her. Wouldn’t grieve over her death. Wouldn’t even know she shouldn’t be alive in the first place. She was an outlier in a city of outliers.
Why was she here? Being here was dangerous. Even if she wished it could be this way, she felt she had to find some way back to the abyss. Away from the comfort of humanity.
A voice breaks her trance, and her eyes set on a familiar, tearful glare. “...Tsubomi..?” Her voice is quiet at first, a blank an expression, and then:
“...No, your name is Kido now, right? Leader. ...I never thought I’d see you here.”
