annihilyza:Â
âNo⊠thereâs no test to fail.â Lyza winced with a little guilt. âJust a stubborn habit of mine.â
This was no less awkward than sheâd feared. Riko wasnât excited or overjoyed, she scarcely even believed that it was her mother sitting before her. Another trick, another illusion, another test to overcome. Riko wanted to meet her legendary mother in epic triumph, the end of a brilliant adventure. Not in a forest by a river in the dark. Not with doubt and reservations in Lyzaâs heart.
âYou saw me in Fault, then⊠Iâm sorry. But this time, Riko, Iâm not an illusion. Iâm right here before you.â Lyza sits still, tapping her fingers against her knees. âSo take as long as you need, I donât imagine this is easy for you.â
Lyza points at the brace on Rikoâs arm with soft concern. âOzen said you left in good health⊠What happened?â
âThen how?â Riko muttered, thinking aloud as she attempted to process the situation. The more she thought the more questions arose.Â
As the child was dragged from her thoughts as a sudden heaviness grew in her stomach. She had no story to tell, much less a heroic one. There were no grand battle, no epic or daring escape. Just pain and a foolish wound that would remain with Riko forever. A permanent failure. Still she gave a small smile as she answered.Â
â An Orb Piercer.â Riko shifted as she adjusted the brace, a habit she had recently picked up. Out of all of her memories Riko had made in the Abyss so far, that was her least favorite. â We didnât notice it following us. âÂ
