CW: Police officers being dicks, Child Abuse, foster system and all that is wrong with it, mental health
Malaki was brought into the ER, cuffed to the bed with a police officer shoving him down every time he tries to sit up. "LET GO OF ME" He shrieks as he thrashes.
He was quickly losing fight though, his body too malnourished and weak to fight much. He had runaway from his group home a few months ago, and finally the police had caught him. Apparently someone called about a teenager acting strange.
Unfortunately, they didn't seem to care about his comfort. They chased him down and tackled him, causing his face and hands to get all scratched up. Now they were acting like he was in the midst of a mental health crisis. Which he kind of was but only because he was terrified. Terrified of going back, of what the cops might do, of everything.
Madi steps in, hearing the screaming āhey HEY! Enough!ā She steps between Malaki and the officers āwhat the hell are you doing to my patient!ā Technically she wasnāt on his case but it seemed like lying was the best course of action
"He was being aggressive, we have to follow protocol." One of the officers says.
"he's almost an adult anyways" the other grunts as he tries to push past her to hold down the boy who was already beginning to get up. Malaki kicks out at them, wanting space but too emotional for words
āAlmost an adult doesnāt mean he is an adult⦠back the fuck offā she pushes the cops out and shuts the door of Malakiās bed bay. She sits on the chair next to his bed, staying silent, just making sure heās ok, hoping heāll talk when heās ready
He curls up, tugging the cuff a few times. Each time he is met with a metallic click and resistance.
Suddenly he throws himself off the bed, arm bending back painfully as he tries to grab anything he can to help him
āWe canāt get you out of those right now when youāre this erraticā she says calmly, hoping some sort of explanation will help āwhen youāve calmed down a bit we can get them off ok?ā
He makes a displeased noise and reaches for the chair, intending to throw it at the glass where he sees the police still watching him with barely hidden displeasure. His fingers barely brush against it and he strained more
She sighs, trying to stay calm but honestly sheās worried about him āI need you to take a few deep breaths ok?ā
āFucking PIGSā he finally grabs the chair and throws it in their direction, though it barely gets a second of airtime. He slipped and crashed to the ground with the throw. Simply curling up there as the police open the door, concerned for Madiās safety. He wouldnāt hurt her though, she hadnāt done anything to him.
āTrust me I knowā she mumbles under her breath. Sheās had enough run ins with law enforcement as a teen to somewhat understand how he feels. Her eyes widen as the cops open the door āI need you out⦠he needs to calm down and youāre not helpingā
āWe canāt have him hurting you, heās shown heās violent. Get him his meds or whatever you do and let us bring him to the stationā the bigger man says in his gruff voice.
Malaki looks around for something else to throw. He tugs the cuff desperately. The man reminded him of one of the fosters he had a while ago.
Madi gives a polite but tense smile. Sheās already hates this guy āyeah Iāll go do thatā she closes the door to Malakiās bed bay again, this time locking it and closing the curtain too āI might have to give you something to calm you down ok?ā She says calmly, just sitting for now, wanting him to have some choice.
He tugs the cuff desperately, hiding himself behind his knees. For the first time since he came in his actions were childish in a different way. A desperate attempt at safety, at protection.
His arm and shoulder were aching now, having been bent at an odd angle for too long. He looks up at her though his bangs
Her lips press into a thin line, trying to hide how worried she is. She wishes she could get the cuffs off him but she just canāt until he calms down, for his and her own safety. She sighs, weighing up her options āIām gonna give you a sedative now, just a little bit, and then I can take those cuffs off ok? Youāll be awake and aware enough to know whatās going on and Iāll be with you the whole timeā
He yelps as the needle pricks his leg, in a short amount of time he feels his heart rate slowing, despite the fear still strong. His mind felt coated with honey, thoughts slowing as he slumps. Distantly he was even more terrified, he wouldnāt be able to stop anything happening. He could barely before but now it was worse.
As he finally starts physically calming down. She gets the cuffs off him āyouāre ok⦠Iām here with you ok? Iāll make sure no one hurts you⦠try to keep your eyes open ok?ā she tries to reassure him. Hopefully the drugs will wear off soon. Hopefully heāll be less erratic when they do.
He looks at her, legs slipping down as he tightens from the ball he curled himself into.
āYou liedā he slurs, āyouāre gānna let ām take me way!ā Malakiās eyes had tears in them, though they wouldnāt actually fall
She shakes her head, her eyes brimming with tears herself āI wonāt let them, I promiseā¦ā she tries to calm him down āshhh I promise Iāll do everything I canā¦ā
He holds his hands close to himself, looking up at her. āI donāt like āmā he says as he points to the cops, flipping them off with what little strength he had left
āYeah I know⦠I donāt like them eitherā¦ā she says with a soft smile at his weak middle finger
āThey hurt meā he pouts, trying to pull himself on the bed
āI know⦠they canāt anymore, Iāll get Robby or someone scary to go deal with themā
He nods and lays down on the ground
āā¦. Youāre allowed to lay on the bed you know?ā She crouches to be eye level with him ācan I help you onto the bed?ā
āYeah pleaseā he says as he tries to stand up again
āMkayā she helps him up to the bed āthere you go⦠better?ā
He curls up and nods, ādidnāt wanā hospitalā
āI know⦠but if you didnāt come here you wouldnāt have got to hang out with meā she jokes
He grins slightly at her, still loopy, ābut theyāre gonna take me away!ā
āIāll work something out ok?ā She tries to reassure him, not sure how sheāll get the police to leave him alone but sheāll make it happen
He nods, playing with the bedsheets absentmindedly. He looks around the room
The blond-haired woman walked through the corridor to Malaki's room, easily noting the presence of the police men. She greeted them, but instead of asking them anything, she immediately turned towards the door.
With a short knock and the lock turning, she walked inside. Closing the door behind them, she checked if the curtains were pulled properly. "Hello, I'm Doctor Lula Sonnet. Before we start, what is the reason for the cops being here, and you likely having been handcuffed?"
@madilynkaya
āThe police said he was aggressive when they brought him in but he was mostly just erratic and confused from my perspective. Gave him a low dose of lorazepam that calmed him downā Madi explains softly, keeping an eye on Malaki to make sure heās ok.
@tedoulula
Malaki stares at them, too tired to ask questions. He closed his eyes, turning to his side and hugging his stomach as if growls slightly
@tedoulula
Her lips moved to the side, as she pursed them. Her thoughts focused back to everything she has seen or heard by now. Her eyes stayed on the boy, who she soon addressed, "I will go talk with them, and then, I will come back to check you over."
Anything else that may have been said was lost on her, as Lula immediately did just that. The door closed with a push from her, and the handcuffs were already in between her fingers. Fortunately, she managed to convince them to leave without additional issues.
@redwindchaser
The larger cop looks over at her, standing straight up, "Is he clear to go?" He asks in a gruff voice, clearly not caring all that much about the hospitals protocols
"Not yet." Lula stared back at them, clearly unaffected by his demeanour. She instinctively straightening her own back, matching the man's posture. "Has he done anything except for acting out? From what I've heard, his behaviour didn't seem... mentally stable, which makes me consider keeping him for observation. Especially now with him having been sedated."
@redwindchaser
"He was being aggressive to us, not to mention he has been seen around the streets for a few days, just loitering. It is annoying people since he...well you know" He gestures to the kid, who yeah looked a little rough but what else could you expect from someone who's been on the streets for over a month
"No, I don't think I know what you mean, officer. I also don't think there was any malicious about his intentions for loitering, so as far as I am aware, it is not something that either of you need to stay here for." Her body shifted slightly, covering up the view towards the door from the men. Her eyebrows narrowed at the comment, even if her voice reimained calm.
Without any words, she stretched out her hand with the handcuffs to the cops to hand them over, ready to be done with them. "He is also a child, which makes me think of far more reasons that would indicate negative things about the boy's parents than about him."
The cop scoffs, "The boys parents, you think a kid like that still has parents around. No he's a ward of the state, a system kid, we've dealt with him and kids like him a lot. He's too aggressive for foster homes, we had to pull him out of a couple after he claimed abuse."
The other cop rolls his eyes, "He reported abuse, we could not find any evidence of it however, but he was removed from the home. That was almost a year ago now" he says, his words a little more gentle and understanding.
Her expression softens for just a second at the other cop's words, but she forces the seriousness back on her face just as quickly. Her annoyance at the behaviour of the man who talks the most right now is enough to help with hiding the worry she felt for the boy. That worry can stay there for when she'd actually talk to him.
"That does not give you a reason to handcuff or even arrest him for something that would be a misdemeanour in the first place." The mere idea of the mistreatment done by the cop that was, to use his own words against him, too aggressive for his job complicated the chance for Lula to keep calm.
"She has a point" The other cops says, "We can call his social worker and she can figure out the next course of action. If we need to charge him we can come back when he can actually understand what we are saying"
The big cop scoffs, something about homeless people ruining the city and he walks off. The other cop just sighs and follows him out, after giving Lula his contact information.
Putting the contact information away, she sighs out to get rid of any irritation from earlier. Only after that, and after another knock on the door, does she come into the room. Shortly, she glances at Madi as if to check on her.
She stays focused on the patient for most of it anyway. She talks to him, too, doing her best not to mention his situation. It wouldn't help with his assessment right now anyway... "The cops left, so that should be handled for now. Are you okay with me examining you right now, Malaki?"
@madilynkaya
āIāll be right here with you observing from a mental health perspective⦠we can wait until youāre feeling ok for me to question you ok?ā She reassures him softly ātheyāre gone now, youāre safe with usā
@redwindchaser
He looks between the two of them, the medicine in his system preventing him from getting worked up.
āOkay, I guess you can thenā¦ā
@tedoulula
With his permission, Tallulah steps closer to the bed, and to Malaki himself. Explaining everything as she is doing it, she begins looking over him. Her touch stays gentle as to not cause more pain. Her eyebrows are still narrowed, but now, more in concentration than anger.
"Would you like something to eat or drink after?" She questions casually, not looking up at his face from where she was checking his wrists.
@redwindchaser
He shrugs, stomach growling slightly at the idea of food. He wanted to say yes but he was scared that it was a trick. He untucks himself to allow her to check up on him
@madilynkaya
āIāll go look for some snacks for you ok?ā Madi steps out of the room, grabbing a pack of chips and chocolate and a juice from the vending machine for him. She quickly makes her way back
@redwindchaser
He pouts as he stares at the door, waiting for her return
She smiles softly āok Iāve got two packs of chips and two options for chocolate bars and I stole juice from the patient fridge. Orange or apple?ā
@redwindchaser
āAppleā he groans as he holds his hands out for it

@madilynkaya
āThe police said he was aggressive when they brought him in but he was mostly just erratic and confused from my perspective. Gave him a low dose of lorazepam that calmed him downā Madi explains softly, keeping an eye on Malaki to make sure heās ok.
@tedoulula
Malaki stares at them, too tired to ask questions. He closed his eyes, turning to his side and hugging his stomach as if growls slightly
@tedoulula
@redwindchaser
@redwindchaser
@madilynkaya
āIāll be right here with you observing from a mental health perspective⦠we can wait until youāre feeling ok for me to question you ok?ā She reassures him softly ātheyāre gone now, youāre safe with usā
@redwindchaser
He looks between the two of them, the medicine in his system preventing him from getting worked up.
āOkay, I guess you can thenā¦ā
@tedoulula
@redwindchaser
He shrugs, stomach growling slightly at the idea of food. He wanted to say yes but he was scared that it was a trick. He untucks himself to allow her to check up on him

With a short knock and the lock turning, she walked inside. Closing the door behind them, she checked if the curtains were pulled properly. "Hello, I'm Doctor Lula Sonnet. Before we start, what is the reason for the cops being here, and you likely having been handcuffed?"
@madilynkaya
āThe police said he was aggressive when they brought him in but he was mostly just erratic and confused from my perspective. Gave him a low dose of lorazepam that calmed him downā Madi explains softly, keeping an eye on Malaki to make sure heās ok.
@tedoulula
Malaki stares at them, too tired to ask questions. He closed his eyes, turning to his side and hugging his stomach as if growls slightly
@tedoulula
@redwindchaser
@redwindchaser
