Back by popular demand! Last Saturday we showed you our rare Irish Setter display from the 1950s we decided to use for the Irish Setter 9875 Moc Toe limited edition release. With this post we grant you a closer look of all the intricate parts from the kit. For us it was like an exciting puzzle for grownups. The Visual Merchandising Kit comes with a big, ornate poster, a pole, multiple plateaus to put shoes on, some logos, little logo display stands, and a proposition for a radio ad. The Irish Setter 9875!
A true Collector’s Item has arrived! Previously only available in Japan the 9875 Moc Toe (https://goo.gl/HMRPUQ) in the Golden Sequoia leather is now available in our stores in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and online at www.redwingberlin.com with all its bells and whistles. This boot is as close to the original iconic hunting style conceived in 1953, as you can get. The prominent Golden Sequoia upper owes its name to the bark of the Sequoia Redwood Tree, which is beautifully matched with the same color heavy leather laces. In the upper shaft the boot has the traditional imprint, which was common in the 1950s. It has a woven Irish Setter label with its original dog design in the gusset tongue and a quarter stitch at the most common stress point of the Moc Toe at the height of the small toe, strenghtening the moc-stitching. Red Wing stopped utilizing this method in the 1980’s because it was not needed anymore. Even the Mahogany and Sage colored thread is almost identical to the 1950s material. This special boot comes in a special shoebox, which is a replica of the old Irish Setter cartons. What more can you ask for? Oh, one more thing. They look amazing when worn! In 1950, the Red Wing Shoe Company created a boot designed specifically for sportsmen made with leather that was tanned with the bark of the sequoia tree, giving it an orange color. Our Munich regular Tobias bought his 2959 Blacksmith in the beautiful Copper Rough & Tough 4 years ago. He definitely went through thick and thin with this one. They look amazing. He dropped them off for a resoling and at the same time picked up the updated version, the 3343 Blacksmith (https://goo.gl/Z5x7ZY) with the 430 Vibram Mini-Lug outsole. We can´t wait to see what he does with this project. Sidenote: Don´t wear the same Red Wing boot every day of the week. Unboxing the 888 Irish Setter "Sport Pac" from 1964! The 53 year old catalogue describes it as "... a boot that will command attention with its unique design and packaging". We agree. The upper of this green beast is made of Australian green Kangaroo combined with a German speed lacing. The boot is packaged in a vinyl covered case, a pair of green and yellow Irish Setter Sport Socks made of wool, and one can of Leather Conditioner. Everything in mint condition.
