Three new trees planted outside the pool.
Did you know that there are over 100 species of trees on Reed’s campus? Here are three more trees to add to the map on http://blogs.reed.edu/trees/.
While standing on the fish ladder, a small blue dragonfly landed on my hand for a few magical moments.
Just another day in the Reed Canyon.
Enjoy an afternoon of song against the backdrop of Reed Canyon on Saturday at 1 p.m. Members of Music 252 (A History of the Madrigal) will be joined by the Reed Collegium and some of Portland’s finest recorder players in Cerf Amphitheatre. The performance will feature diverse examples of Italian and English madrigals from the period 1540-1610.
Such a cool event that happened over the weekend!
Seniors who have received their laurels can be spotted all over campus this week! 🎉 #Repost @reed_bookstore ・・・ Congratulations, Makana!!!

Hi! I'm super excited to be staying at Reed for 24 hours this January! Can you give me some advice on how to make my experience (and interview...) the best it can be?
Hi there! We asked one of our students to help us answer this question. See their answer below:
I'm a current student and sophomore Economics major this year at Reed College! I'm so glad that you're able to come to campus this January, and I'd love to send a few campus hot spots your way while also shedding some light on the interview. If you have any more questions, please feel free to send them our way!
First thing in the morning, I'd pop into the Paradox Cafe, a student run coffee shop in the center of campus that's always a great place to study, or grab a morning bev and pastry! They have absolutely lovely options for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in this chilly January weather. I also usually snag one of their !amazing! vegan scones. In the evenings, the Paradox hosts live music events and an occasional open mic for Reedies to sing, slam, or perform.
Next, I'd check out the Canyon. The Canyon is a ravine that runs through the middle of our campus, crossing Reed Lake, and is home to salmon fish, ducklings, and beavers! The beautiful canyon view is the best part of my walk to class everyday, while also serving as a pseudo-classroom space for our biology and chemistry classes. I've certainly been in galoshes more than once to take samples for Bio 110! Additionally, the Canyon has paths along the perimeter that you might find Reedies strolling along during their day. It's a peaceful place to spot an owl, sit down for lunch, or write some poetry!
Lastly, I'd visit the Thesis Tower. Our Thesis Tower is near the North Reference section of our library, and is a truly special spot on campus at Reed. Every student on campus completes a year-long, original research project called the Senior Thesis as a part of their last year at Reed. The Thesis Tower is home to all of the circulating copies of Senior Theses written by Reed graduates. Not only a great place to study and check out work from Reedies of the past, this space represents the legacy of your intellectual curiosity, academic accomplishments, creative mind, and desire to gift knowledge to the community for generations to come.
As far as the interview goes, it's already fantastic that you're getting on campus to meet some Reedies and experience what it's like to be within the community. The interview is always recommended, but not required, and it's essentially an opportunity for us to chat about you! What are you passionate about? Curious about? It's also a great time to talk about anything you want to provide context for in your application. Switched schools? Took classes at a college over summer? You'll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about Reed. What's it like to live on campus? How do Reedies spend their free time?
Hope you have a lovely time on campus, and if you have any more questions, please feel free to reach out again on Tumblr, or at our email address [email protected]!

Hey, I know that Reed has a longstanding tradition of mailing their decisions, but if I am an international applicant that applied ED, will be decision be emailed instead? And if so, will it be on December 15? Thanks so much
Hello! International decisions are emailed on December 15. Domestic decisions are postmarked on December 15.
Thanks for the question!
#TBT: The Pool Hall Formal endures! Great shots by Varik Harris ’19.
Reed’s pool hall hosts two formals each year: a time to dress up, hang out, and play pool.
