I had to say goodbye to my darling Stewart today. It was very sudden but not as sudden as we originally thought, so I’m very grateful to have had a few extra days with him to feed him pizza and anchovies, visit old friends, take slow walks in Prospect Park, give lots of pets and make sure he knew that he was the absolute best dog, co-pilot, road trip navigator, sitter-upper, high-five giver and most loving sidekick I could’ve ever asked for. He’d been to 18 states, partied on Bourbon Street, eaten BBQ in Memphis, skied in Telluride, ATV'd in Montana, surfed in Mexico, snuck into movie theaters and restaurants and was a pioneer of the canine resting bitch face. Saying goodbye is the most painful part of having a dog, but the unconditional love and joy they bring must exceed it because I will no doubt do it again when I’m ready. For now, I’m just going to hug Loretta and Lois and find comfort in the gratitude of having at least one Stewart come into my life. In a Frank Lloyd Wright mood this morning. The permanently contemporary nature of his work was never more apparent than on a recent visit to The American Wing of the met featuring furniture, photographs and drawings of architecture and interiors of The Gilded Age. While his peers’ mantra seemed to be “more is more” during the Gilded Age, he was designing homes and furniture that look as clean and modern today as they did over 100 years ago. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has this living room from the Little house in Wayzata, Minnesota.
