children of blood and bone | tomi adeyemi
“As it fades, I see the truth - in plain sight, yet hidden all along. We are all children of blood and bone. All instruments of vengeance and virtue. This truth holds me close, rocking me like a child in a mother’s arms. It binds me in its love as death swallows me in its grasp.”
Things I love ‘The Rain’ for:
Showing young people in a post-apocalyptic environment who act realistically, who are frightened out of their mind and do stupid shit because they don’t know how to react to the trauma that they’re going through.
The healthiest, maturest break-up I’ve ever witnessed on my screen, ever.
The kids are actually given time to grieve and feel like shit.
But there are happy, hopeful moments too, which don’t feel forced.
Showing the struggle of holding onto your humanity during times of survival.
Establishing a healthy relationship built entirely on amazing communication and mutual respect in eight episodes.
Showing that violence isn’t always the best way to ensure survival.
Young people talking to each other and supporting each other through grief.
Realistically depicting how spending six formative years in a bunker can affect someone’s mental development.
