"Mommy!" The child waddled up to his mother. "Daddy's fighting again!"

                     the blonde raised a brow towards her child, stopping her hands from chopping the vegetables for dinner. lucy listened closely for a few moments, placing a warm hand atop Zeref’s head. true to his word, lucy heard the familiar sounds of a scuffle from the front yard;  –  muffled yelling, fire crackling, fists meeting flesh—- a sigh tore itself from the mothers throat, arms reaching to hoist her son onto her waist as she headed to greet the newly arrived guest her husband was currently trying to turn into kabobs. the toddler rinned and grasped at the air at the sight of his favorite uncle spewing ice shards at his father.

❝  Gray !! Was your train delayed? you were supposed to be here hours ago, dinner’s almost done ! put your bags inside– but be quiet, Iggy’s sleeping. ❞                      the ice mage huffed at the commands given, but smiled none the less as he grabbed his luggage from the ground. he took the toddler from lucy’s arms gave her a peck on the cheek as a greeting. 

❝ and you—— c’mere. ❞   lucy smiled as her husband visibly shuttered at her tone, but obeyed none the less; brushing himself off, he prepared himself for the usual noogie he received for fighting in front of the kids. instead, the blonde stood on her toes to peck him on the nose before kissing him softly through a smile. 

            ❝ you’re off the hook cause’ Zeref loves when uncle gray vists. I can’t believe he’s your son. ❞

                                          lucy’s eyes stung with tears that refused to fall; –  her fingers gripped                                          desperately at the wrinkled fabric of his vest & clung onto his                                           trembling frame—  he refused to look at her. even when he was broken,                                          frightened, confused & tearing himself apart—- he didn’t look at her.                                         perhaps he didn’t want to see the tears raging against her chocolate hues,                                           perhaps he didn’t want her to see his. for whatever reason unspoken;                                            natsu shielded his face from the blonde, hidden beneath salmon locks                                          —-though his words crumbled as he spoke & his hands trembled                                                 against hers. 

   ❝    – you’re GOING to.  ❞

lucy’s palms moved hazardly, quickly to his face– she pulled on his jaw and tilted his chin towards hers, fingers gliding along damp cheeks and tussled hair. there wasn’t much she needed to say after that— onyx hues studied hers in a sense of confusion & relief;   there were parts of lucy that urged her, pushed her, SCREAMED at her to press her lips against his & pour every unsaid feeling into it.  but the better part of her knew that wasn’t what he wanted, wasn’t what he needed–  natsu needed solidity & affection. she wouldn’t trouble him with desperate truths of hidden love or unsure confessions. she would just hold him, here— in the darkness of a magnolia apartment, cradling the warmth of her friend, partner, team mate—-  … whatever he was, whatever THEY were, it all came second to the soothing breaths he gave and the whispered promises she offered.

lucy tried, & failed, to wrestle the bar stool out of her teammates grasp in the heat of this full out brawl— gray had ignored all offered advice to cease stripping; wendy was cowering behind make-shift defenses, and if one more bottle hit lucy she was going to MURDER someone-- the blonde found refuge offered by the blonde mage near the door; to which she hurriedly abandoned her dragonslayers forearm and scurried for safety within the field. 

  ❝ Satoshi, you are a very smart & practical man. ❞   lucy nodded as she continued with the mage out of the guild hall.

     ❝ I’m afraid you’ve joined the WRONG guild. ❞
