Augustus found himself grinning as Bellatrix spoke so vehemently against the ideals of a pureblood partner and their role in the revolution. Bellatrix was by no means the only female in their little rebellion, but she was a transgressive creature. So frequently, wives and daughters of Death Eaters took to the rebellion in an auxiliary way- spying, protecting their spouses through espionage and misinformation. Bella, on the other hand, was the Dark Lordâs chosen one, respected and expected to be on the front line, her wand wielded.
Despite his late-coming to the cause, Gus had always been sympathetic to it. He watched his friends, one by one, get wrapped up in the embrace of Voldemortâs power, consuming and heady. When he had joined, compelled by love and a desire for more, he had seen that to sympathise hadnât been sufficient. Bellatrix Black had no reason to join the Rebellion, indicative by her sisterâs neutrality, but she had anyway. And that was a profound gesture to the Unspeakable. âWe would never let your talent be wasted in such triviality.â It sounded a lot like a promise, one he knew he had very little say in knowing the immense power and influence of her fiancĂ©. But Rodolphus knew, he knew better than anyone what great power Bella possessed..
Augustus leaned forward in interest as the dark-haired woman sent the file in his direction. He smiled slowly as he took in the face. The man had broad features and a strong jaw, not handsome but full of pride. He seemed unnecessarily competent and his job description dictated that he had a brain hiding beneath the thinning hairline. Electricity raced through him at the prospect of another victim for his collection. âIt means he should be a nice little challenge for us.â
Getting to his feet, Gus deposited his champagne glass on his desk before moving around the expensive furniture to fetch his cloak. Tossing it over his shoulder, he reached out to put a hand on the back of Bellatrixâs chair. âUnless you have anything planned for this evening, Ms. Bellatrix, might I suggest we pay Mr. McTaggart a little visit?â
It had been a long time since he had Bellatrix had been put together on a mission and Gus found himself keen to be out and on the hunt with the younger woman once more. âOr perhaps, there is somewhere you need to be.â The dark man finished with a smirk.
âIâm blessed in that regard.â Bellatrix understood the nature of their ways- it wasnât as if much has changed in her time, nor her motherâs time. The line of women that stood before her had always had some sort of role in a cause- the regality in her name proved the sacrifices shared between all of them. The fact that Bellatrix always yearned to play a more⊠active role in matters was only natural for her. She knew however, that such feats wouldnât have been so simple, had she not had Rodolphus by her side, willing to push her into greatness. âIâm sure weâd be having an entirely different conversation, had my parents chosen otherwise. They wouldâve been fools to, so I guess itâs by the fate of the Dark Lord.â
Red lips pressed together as she continued to scrutinize the files, fingers tracing over the photographs as if they provided some warmth. Her mind was assessing why Augustus would have her do such a task- he wasnât a man who often allowed others to do his bidding for him, not without reason. Her eyebrow raised slightly, Augustus words proving her point. Her smirk glimmered against the dim lighting of her room, lips quick to meander what was left of the wine within her glass. Her dark eyes glanced up, shadows speaking to the excitement that was on going within her mind.
âAnd a challenge donât we require.â
It wouldâve been strange to understand the close nature of Bellatrix and Augustus. If one was to ask the raven-haired witch, it was merely darkness which attracted them to each other. Augustus understood her darkness- and unlike others who often required her to honeit, he understood the true ferocity behind allowing it to take over, behind the cataclysmic power of her mind.
Trust wouldâve been a strange word to use- it wasnât exactly that. People in their position only proved themselves willing to be caught if theyâd trusted, but Bellatrixâs long-standing history to Augustus only proved his willingness as an ally.
âIf I had anything better to do, I wouldnât be in your company.â The sly grin which followed was almost a jest, a strange gesture which left the girl. Her hand reached out to grab his arm, excitement culminating within her veins.
Whatever would unfold tonight would be memorable. There wouldnât be much else to say about it. Â
END.
