There was a dress Florence Welch wore at one of her Dance Fever concerts in Naarm that's been on my mind ever since. Delicate blue lace, billowing sleeves, and a cape that would surely be the envy of any witch or whimsy lover... I filed it away for later, thinking I'll wait until the next Florence + the Machine album so that I'd have something to wear when I'm weeping in the cheap seats again as she puts us all under her spell.

But then one of my dearest friends saw an outfit in Taylor Swift's Eras tour that captured her in much the same way and we thought... why not make them and wait for the full colours of Autumn to come out so that we could take photos under the falling leaves? And this turned into such a healing couple of hours of prancing about and exclaiming that we've "never felt this pretty" before.

I'm so lucky to be surrounded by friends and loved ones who are always down for adventures and whimsical days such as this one. So much love to Vanessa for taking these beautiful photos and for asking me to dress her up as an apothecary witch! 🍁

drawing: in-universe portraits, sketches or doodles; maps; signs and designs; architect's plans of buildings...

music-making: covers of songs, new verses or added arrangements, songs from characters or cultures that the musical doesn't include...

crafting: sewing or fibrecrafts; woodworking, metalcraft, jewellery-making; cosplay; recreating props...

#The thing about Van Gogh is that he painted around 860 paintings in his lifetime #and that's not including all his drawings and studies and letters - over a thousand works of art in his lifetime and yet #the ones you will see the most often are the Sunflowers or Starry Night.#It's only a small piece of a body of work that covers the full breadth and depth of life - his hundreds of studies of the common man that he #loved so dearly.#His paintings of them at work in the fields or gathered round a table for a dinner made of vegetables planted by their own hands.#When you see his paintings in person and they seem as though they were painted moments ago -#that's just how fervently he spread the colours across the canvas - desperate to capture what in that moment was so beautiful to him.#When you only look at his most popular paintings you don't see his letters to and from his brother.#You don't see the story behind the Almond Blossoms or the dedication in the corner of his study of a fruit bowl:#'à mon frère Theo'.#You don't see the single minded dedication with which Jo gave her life to make sure that her husband's brother was remembered.#but anyway yeah it's genuinely annoying how good Shakespeare actually is.#I'm mad about it.

Just taking a moment for The Dress before I gather my thoughts and share a proper Ren Fair post ✨️ I had grand plans of making two costumes and that very quickly went out the window with how busy I've been lately.

But it meant I could really focus on making this costume - with all the hours of cutting out the velvet, stitching trim on the sleeves, gathering mountains of fabric, and grumbling at my embroidery machine whenever it stopped mid trim to complain about the bobbin running out.

Although there's some things I'd do differently if I could - and all of the undergarments were thrown together from pieces in my collection rather than purpose built for the costume - I'm still so happy with how it turned out! I've always wanted an excuse to make a dress like this and I'm so excited for all the many more Ren Fairs to come 💙

This weekend is the two year anniversary of my step dad's passing from motor neurone disease.

If you're based in so called Australia and have the funds to spare, I'd really appreciate it if you could buy a beanie, a pair of socks, or one of the new caps from Fight MND. They were a huge support during my step dad's illness and are working hard towards a cure for the disease.

If you're not based in Australia, please look into your local charities for MND and donate if you can spare a few dollars. It's a terrible illness that has a life expectancy of about two to three years after diagnosis - we lost my step dad after only one. This is a particularly difficult time of year for me and my family, but seeing everyone wearing the blue beanies from Fight MND is such a comfort. And I'd really appreciate any change you can spare for your local charity, so that one day no one will have to go through what my family went through 💙
