Getting some practice with my new Huion tablet and caving to peer pressure to start offering clean-lined cellshaded art on my commission list (will probably have just inked art as an option, too). Still deciding prices, which'll go up after this sample is finished
Context: The severed head isn't dead, he's effectively immortal and is activetly annoyed at his current situation. The man holding him is his rescuer, who just fished the head out of a pond after chasing off the would-be killers.
Taking a few minutes from finals stuff because I had the sudden need to doodle. I miss digital painting so much. That’s one thing I look forward to indulging in after graduation.
Dropped off 30 pieces at the Leslie Powell gallery yesterday, including the sculpture containing my character generator cards and last semester’s sketchbook. All for “Eclectic,” a show featuring the work of all the graduating artists this year. We’ve spent months putting this together. The show opens Saturday. Can’t wait!
Found this goat skull while scouting plein air locations during class. It was by the creek, probably washed up from the last flood. A friend adopted it as her first skull~
Not long after, we set up to do some watercolor sketches, and were stalked by a skunk. It’d been circling around, and after we ran off it flollowed us and snuck up while we were getting ready to grab lunch. Luckily no one got sprayed.
Sorry updates have been slow. Two big events happened this week. The first on the left was Cameron’s student art show at which many of us gave an impromptu talk about our work. Was a nice evening.
Then last night was a charity auction… Never! Again! I hope the two that purchased my prints have a shred of respect for the work they got cause if they act like the bitch that used my friend’s art for a god damn drink coaster then a hex on them. I have never felt so infuriated, belittled, and disgusted. That’s just the tip of it, but I will never display at a charity event again.
EDIT: Some clarifications on the event a few weeks back. A friend and I were asked to attend a Mardi Gras gala to display and sell/auction some art pieces, and we could keep the money. This seemed like a great opportunity and the gala was pretty pleasant if not somewhat disorganized. Unfortunately, it seemed that the fact we were students seemed to merit undervaluing our work. Our prices were ignored and our work was sold off for a fraction of their actual value. We believe they purposely undersold our work due to the fact that a piece sold for its full value (bout $80), but they didn’t seem to know it belonged to my friend. But once they brought up the art they were aware was ours, they sold it for $5, $15, $25. This was something we were afraid of, which was why we brought woodblock and linoleum prints instead of paintings. (Our department generally avoids sending students to auctions and charity events because of this very thing, but supposedly in past years this gala was good to our students. Sad it wasn’t the case this year).
Thankfully, though, our chairwoman heard about what happened and went full out mama bear. Emails were sent and within 24 hours the organization that ran the event sent checks to my friend and I to compensate us for the money we lost.
I still won’t be selling art at an event like that again though. I might put my work up for display, but if someone’s interested in buying, they can talk to me personally or have my business card.
This weekend’s art stream was brought to you by Rare Potatoes, Boob Fruit, and Thug Lyf. But, no, seriously, a friend did my gen ed homework for me so I would do this.
Planning to start streaming every weekend. Requests encouraged.
