It's not exactly exciting. Aside from a few minor changes, it basically looks the same.
I get up early in the morning, do some light stretching, eat breakfast, and then go to the Foundation. There, I take care of my responsibilities and try not to lose my mind because of certain people. After work, I go home, relax (for example, by reading, doing crossword puzzles, or learning something new), eat dinner, and go to bed so that the next day will go the same way.
Small changes can involve more serious matters or going out on the town with members of the Foundation.
I didn't even notice when I'd fallen into a routine.
However, I hope that will change soon. As you know, I'm planning to adopt a cat soon, and that will be one of the changes in my life that I hope will transform it in some way and break me out of my routine.
And don't worry — the decision to adopt a cat was very well thought out. I've already bought everything I need and done my research on him.
Absolutely. The only thing I might regret is the way I went about achieving them. Looking back, I know there were certain things I could have done differently, in a better way. But I don’t regret anything. All of that has made me who I am today.
Hey Mekaru, I actually got curious about something. You said you'd rather teach at a college instead of working at KF right? If in the future, you see it appropriate that you can finally leave KF, would you be interested in being a teacher at Hope's Peak like me, or would you rather be a professor in a college instead?
In the past, I probably would have said without a second thought that I'd rather work at the university. But now, I think I'd probably lean toward working at Hope's Peak.
After everything we've been through, I feel a closer connection to this school. I'd like to help these students transition into the next stage of their lives as smoothly as possible and watch them make a difference in our world.
Don't get me wrong—I'm not saying that college students are any worse. They, too, are our future, and they're the ones who will shape our world. I could teach them all of this, too.
However, as I already said, given what happened, I would consider Hope's Peak first.
Would I ultimately choose her? I don't know. That's how I feel right now, but I might change my mind in a while. Time will tell.
Wow, hearing you say that makes me so happy! Yes, I can definitely see you being an amazing teacher who can help them transition into the next stage of their lives and develop their talents. (ˊᗜˋ*)
My class would definitely love you as their teacher, sometimes I have to rely on other students to keep them in line, but with you, if you were there I could just envision them suddenly feeling like they want to listen to me when you walk into the class, haha! It's too bad we can't work together just yet, it'd be even livelier with you around⁓
Which classes would you teach, I wonder? I bet you can teach all of em' since you're the former Ultimate Professor!
Either way, whatever you decide to go with, I'm sure you'll be remarkable at it so I hope you get to teach again soon.
I think I need to go see how you teach. That way, I could get to know your class, too. Tsurugi will just have to manage without me for a day or two.
That way, we'll see if what you're saying would actually work. If I like it, I'll probably say goodbye to the Foundation and join you.
I can teach anything, so it’s possible that’s exactly what would happen. Of course, I wouldn’t teach every grade level—that would be impossible. If I had to choose, I think I’d have a hard time deciding. Maybe then I’d listen to my younger self, who wanted to teach biology.
But we'll find out in the future. Whether that future is near or far remains to be seen.

Give us some... Rei facts
...If I give out Mekaru's personal information away on tumblr, I'm afraid it could have serious repercussions on my physical and mental health departments.
Buut, since you're my dear follower; I'll give you one fact, which involves both of us, so It's TECHNICALLY not a Rei fact but a Rei AND Teruya fact. Surely, Mekaru can't be mad at this!
This fact I discovered in recent years, when The Remnants Of Despair were pretty much done for, the civilization we were used to was slowly settling back into our lives, and as a result; new places to visit were becoming available to the public.
Mekaru and I were having a breath of fresh air, away from Kinjo's overwhelming grind mindset of serving justice for each criminal who dare walk the same earth as us, the saviors of justice, when suddenly we came across a place that had Mekaru stop in her tracks, which made me back away and stop talking about whatever I'd been yapping about at the moment.
We were standing in front of a large glass pane that offered a clear view inside. And what was in front of us, was a cozy place; with comforting warm colors, comfy couches, wooden high tables with curved legs and floral patterned chairs shaped like ornate royal thrones.
But that's not all. What looked like a regular, cozy cafe to spend time at, was in fact: overrun by bunch of cats.
So many of them, like, a herd of them. I could spot at least 12 of them there. They were in various shapes and sizes, various breeds. For two overworked adults who had spent years witnessing heart-wrenching, traumatic events, looking through that window felt like catching a glimpse of heaven.
We sloowly turned to each other, probably thinking of the exact same thing. But Mekaru decided to put it into words as: "Would you like to try out this place's coffee?"
And I said, "Hell yeah."
We got inside this place, the owner—who looked like the personification of the cafe by the way, this guy was a total softie—greeted us warmly, laid down the rules for us—very politely and patiently at that—and then led us to our seats. The moment I sat on the seat, my first instinct was to try to lure one of the cats by using the very effective and classic pspspsps method, but it ignored me, so I pretended that I wasn't interested in the first place.
I glanced over at what Mekaru was doing, she was just sitting with her arms crossed, looking at the place with an air of complete indifference. She looked like she couldn't care less, but knowing her, I could tell that deep down she wanted to pet those cats so badly. I felt the same, but we weren't allowed to chase after cats, and cats are fickle, independent creatures. If we wanted an interaction, we’d have to wait for them to deem us worthy.
After our orders came, and my order was FRICKING ADORABLE by the way. They had drawn a CAT ON my LATTE. It looked so dang good.
Anyway after our orders came, the long awaited moment finally happened and one of the chunkier cats came to greet us. It was a persian cat, and it looked like an old professor with a moustache.
He first rubbed on my legs, so I took the chance and immediately started to pet him, my face starting to flush with excitement and absolute adoration. He was so fluffy, he jumped on top of my lap, leaned into my touch and even lifted his chin at one point so that I could have access to his sweet spots to scratch them. You could tell he loooved being spoiled by humans.
While I was petting it, I noticed Mekaru watching me, and she actually looked kind of upset? It was so funny. It was like she was about to retort saying, "Really? It chose you, instead of me?!"
I smirked at her, asking if she was jealous.
"Jealous of what? Your idiocy or your impeccable track record of incompetence?"
"You wanna pet this cat, sooo badly."
"No, I don't! I came here for coffee. Do you honestly think I care about getting validation from a bunch of self-important fluffbags?"
"Are you really taking out your frustration of being rejected on the cats, Mekaru?"
"Shut up."
Luckily for Mekaru, shortly after this conversation, a very girly meow could be heard from behind her, and it turned out to be coming from a ragdoll! It was a lil' baaaby! An adorable little kitten, probably not older than a year!
Slowly, Mekaru looked up at me. For the first time in our entire friendship/working relationship, she gave me this wide-eyed, helpless look that practically screamed, Can I hold it? Please tell me I can hold it. This was hilarious because, usually I’m the one looking at her for validation, her being the one who knows what she's doing and me being the clueless boy she has to look after. I’m the one looking at her like a dog hovering over a dropped piece of cheese from the dinner table, waiting for a nod of approval or disapproval before I dare make a move.
I nodded at her, chuckling. She was so excited to hold her that she forgot chuck her cup of americano at me!
Shortly after, a wave of other cats decided they wanted a piece of the action too. I didn't have the heart to reject a swarm of begging felines, so I gently set down the Persian cat I’d been holding and dropped into a crouch to spoil the freshly arrived cuties. The ragdoll however, was clinging to Mekaru, refusing to budge and Mekaru didn't seem to have any intention of letting go of her either, cradling her. That was her baby now.
She was having the time of her life, we were having the time of our lives bonding with these cats, and we were more relaxed than we've ever been. At one point I remember Kinjo calling my phone, furiously asking me "Where the hell we've two been", and I told him that he needs to pull that stick out of his ass and actually live his life for once.
Okay, I didn't say that, but I might as well have said that, because at the moment continuing to entertaining the maine coon with the cat wand I was holding was a bigger priority to me than getting back to work.
( ̄▽ ̄)
And that's how we became regulars at a cat cafe! We familiarized ourselves with the cats to the point of knowing the name of every single of them in the building. Mekaru has even taken up journaling, tracking the growth of her favorite, Skittles, with photographs taken from her cutting edge camera. We occasionally visit other animal cafes, whenever we discover them. This weekend we're planning to go to this one cat cafe that's rumoured to serve the fluffiest latte, AND have the fluffiest cats!
Hahaha, I didn't do anything! It was all you. You bonded with that kitten effortlessly, Mekaru. (˶ˆ꒳ˆ˵)
As for the memories, I could have chosen a much more embarassing story because It'd make for a great post, but I'm not a cruel person like that, and you'd unleash your fury upon me If i ever did.
You-you- wouldn't le-let me live?! Sc-scary as ever...
Oooh, could it be that you're adopting a kitty? Yes, that'd be great! A cat would make a great companion for you, Mekaru. Are you planning to go to a shelter, or perhaps you'll adopt a stray cat? If you're going to a shelter I can help you look, or if there's a cat that needs a home to stay I can let you know, I get those sometimes from friends and co-workers.

Apart from Tsurugi, it's not so bad. Although, to be honest, I'd rather go back to teaching. I'm not saying that working at the Foundation is awful, but what I was doing before made me happier.
Sometimes I feel like giving it all up and going back to being a professor. And who knows, maybe that will happen someday.
What is your work exactly? We know you gather intelligence, but what does it entail? And why can you do code?
I don't know if I can tell you everything. But I'll try to tell you as much as I can.
Intelligence gathering is the process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to aid in decision-making. A typical intelligence cycle includes: defining the objective, gathering information, verifying it, analyzing it, and communicating the results. The most important skill is not the collection of information itself, but its critical analysis. Two people may have access to the same data but reach different conclusions depending on the quality of their analysis.
When it comes to programming, it's simple. I like learning new things, especially if I know they might come in handy in the future. That was the case here, too.
While I was teaching at one of the universities, I needed this skill. To be honest, I only knew the basics, but I decided to teach myself more. Later, at the Foundation, I honed this skill. That's all.
If we have something important to do and we work late, then we all stay overnight at the foundation's lodging. Everyone has their own room where they can rest and recharge.
If I have a normal day at work, I go back to my apartment, where I live alone. That’s why I’m thinking about getting a pet that I could bring to work with me, so it wouldn’t have to sit at home alone all day. However, this is something I need to think about more carefully.
How much do you work on a daily basis? How many hours?
It varies. Since things have calmed down, I've been trying to stick to set hours, and it's usually about eight or nine hours.
If we have a very important matter to deal with, I work longer hours. Often even late into the night.
Of course, I still sometimes stay late out of habit. I don't like leaving things unfinished, so I stay until I've finished everything.
I don't always get to do that. Teruya can get me out of my office by telling me I shouldn't have worked so much and that I need to rest. Not every time he tries this does it work, but there are times when it does.
